Singh: There will be no panic buy signings at Blackburn Rovers
10:35am Wednesday 1st August 2012 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
BLACKBURN global advisor Shebby Singh insists there will be no ‘panic buys’ made in their search for more fire power – but Jordan Rhodes remains on Rovers’ radar ahead of the Championship campaign.
Leon Best’s cruciate knee ligament injury has left Rovers in the market for two more strikers, but Singh is adamant it is important the club takes its time to make the right choices.
The Lancashire Telegraph understands manager Steve Kean is bidding to bring in one striker permanently, with cash available to him, with the second attacker expected to be a loan signing.
Rhodes is Rovers’ number ine target and, despite already having their initial interest rebuffed, are refusing to give up on the prolific striker.
West Brom striker Simon Cox and Stoke City’s Ricardo Fuller have been touted as possible targets but Rovers are unlikely to pursue any interest in either of them.
A short list was being drawn up yesterday on possible targets as Rovers look to replace Best with a player of a similar standard.
Singh said: “We will not panic on strikers. We are not prepared to compromise our standards by signing players we don’t think are right.
“Losing Leon is a big blow but at least there is time for us to put things right. We don’t have to rush.
“We have to make sure we don’t rush in and buy a player who is no better than what we already have.
“We are looking to the long term, because we feel that is important for what we want to achieve.”
Rovers are ready to pay significant cash to attract the services of Rhodes and would be willing to offer a cash plus player deal to the Yorkshire side.
Meanwhile the Lancashire Telegraph understands Rovers are determined to hold on to young defender Grant Hanley, despite rumoured interest from top flight clubs.
Rovers are understood to have received no bids for the central defender but are ready to rebuff any interest that does come their way.
Rovers’ squad travel to Holland for their matches in Deventer against Go Ahead Eagles on Friday and the clash with NEC NIjmegen on Sunday.
They then finish their summer campaign with a match at Cork City the following Sunday, ahead of the season opener at Ipswich Town on August 18.

And either way, with Kean still playing as 'manager' of the club, it's irrespective of who we have in the squad, as he'll find a way to make us as unorganised and tactically retarded as possible.

A new season starts, he cant comment on what happened before him, but everyone's on trial and produce or get out.
No matter what he says at this moment - actions will surely speak louder than any words, so he could continue to do what he's doing or stay mum and let his actions speak for themselves. We will know come mid-season if we're down at the bottom of the table and he's still spouting positive like baldy, but at the moment, they are just words and you cant really expect much else.
At the end of the day he is just an "advisor" not the decider. He had to give everyone a fair chance as an outsider coming into the job, it would have been unrealistic to expect him to recommend Kean's dismissal to Venkys given that they admitted themselves they were apportion to the blame of the mistakes last season. That said, I think Venkys will take his advice very seriously and seeing that he's already made it clear about Kean prior to taking the job, if the results point the finger at Kean, Shebby would be expected to make no bones about where the blame lies.

Arsenal signed him last season and hardly used him, he got just one game I think. Looking at Arsenal blogs it seems that it totally baffled the Gooner fans as why Wenger didn't play him more?
He has played in two World Cups and he is in the current South Korean Olympic team and has already scored one goal v Switzerland and he is playing in the quarter final v Gabon at 5pm today. Worth having a look at a possible new Rover....need to be moving quicker though despite Corporal Shebby Jones call for no panic...

Then again, he came with no track record at any level really, so cannot expect anything of substance....kind of "blah, blah, blah..., yeah right".....
There are soon many possible transfers "out" more then "in" I feel.....two long weeks to go....can they afford to wait long enough for the "buy one get one free" deals !!!!!!!
...and what,s that all about "not prepared to compromise our standard" !!!!!!!!
They have stayed with Kean....signed a couple of 35/36 year old players they will be lucky to get half a season out of each & Best, who I doubt would have taken the Championship by storm and we may never know (until who knows when...)
PLUS Singh has been with the club only 5 mins and done nothing but try very hard to sound the man of action and makes fine gestures that confirms it is mostly is coming out of his backside....
Going to be an interesting month indeed.

With regards to defenders, Tal Ben Haim could be available for very little money, if any. Struggled to hold down a starting berth at Chelsea and City but was one of the few stand-out payers at Portsmouth last season. They need all the help they can get and we'd have a decent Championship player.

With regards to the new squad numbers, I know the days of 1-11 are long gone, and some players can be very superstitious about their's, but I can't help but read something into some of the changes. Despite Kean saying the young Portuguese lads are for the future I get the impression that they'll feature quite regularly this season. Awarding Nunes the #7 shirt tells me that he'll be Hoilett's replacement come the start of the season. Vukcevic going from #29 to #33 doesn't look good though, especially when Petrovic has been awarded the #11 shirt.
I'm probably just being cynical - understandable on reflection - but I think Vukcevic may be frozen out again, in favour of the kids, and packed off in January. I hope not though as he's one of the better players in the squad. Also, with the urgency to find two strikers, despite the owners already dragging their heels when looking for just one, I really can't see another defender arriving. If any of the central defenders are sold then we'll have to replace them but I fear we may not leave ourselves enough time to find an adequate replacement.
If we sign a central defender and two strikers before the transfer window slams shut I'll quite happily admit that I was wrong.

The soccer complex is run by a company called KGB and apparently they pay well as the training involves running through the woods their pet dogs are involved so it should be good fun for Keano. The fact is he can even wear the new Rovers shirt which they state is idea camoflage against the forest backdrop so there is every chance he will pass out.I am sure Shebby can motivate him to go plenty of vodka will be available on the first evening and the hunters or rather lads over there will give him a warm reception and a free tattoo on the back of his head.

With the exception of Pederson, they are only fringe players, and to be fair, Blackman and Lunganzi were not even that.
Surprised though, or perhaps not with Venkys, but I thought Slew was one for the future. Out on loan last season and twelve months from joining the club released. Cost a few bob which will probably not be seen again.
Eating into the "asset stripping fund"?
I would be more concerned if Givet goes, and under a well run club, there should be replacements in mind now just in case. However this is under a well run club!!

Looks like Blackman could go to Sheff Utd probably on loan, but he is another that should have been given a chance. He is a big strong lad and should have been given a shot at proving himself last season but instead the odious one brought Modeste in from France. he was just a poor copy of Blackman I think.
As for Robbo, I think he has been a very good keeper for us but the last season or so he has not been at the top of his game and everything off the field at Ewood clearly affected him. Maybe time to let Robbo go and give Bunn a chance with Kean as back-up.
Not sure what is happening with NZonzi, Dann and Olsson...? But whatever it is it should be done quickly.
Dann should eventually go to Southampton I think for around 4 Million? NZonzi could go to Sunderland.....stran
ge that West Ham (Sam) didn't come in for him though? I would have thought Sam rated NZonzi... Olsson will probably also go maybe to Chelsea reserves or Stoke?
But all that is not 'asset stripping' LP, it is just normal football business that happens every close season and is happening at every club in the land right now.
Players out Players in...sell them for more than you buy them for is almost everyone but the top six's maxim.
As for the home attendances being 6k after the first match that is not very realistic even if we lose especially as we sold around 8k ST's. Plus the walk-on's there should be a 10k plus gate for every home league game.
Come on LP the positive slant on life didn't last so long mate...want me to come across and fill up your half empty glass? best wishes LP
