Nzonzi heading to Spain

Steven Nzonzi Steven Nzonzi

STEVEN Nzonzi is set to join Spanish top flight side Sevilla on a season-long loan – but Blackburn Rovers have not given up on him playing a part in their future.

The want-away French midfielder has been frozen out of Rovers’ pre-season preparations to date and, with no club ready to meet their valuation of him, a loan deal has been decided as the best option for all parties.

It is understood Sevilla will pick up his wages for the coming season, with a January recall clause expected, with Nzonzi’s relationship with the current club management understood to be untenable.

The 23-year-old ended last season on the substitutes bench, despite a shortage of midfielders in the club’s relegation scrap, after failing to see eye to eye with boss Steve Kean.

Nzonzi’s agent informed Rovers this summer he wanted to quit Ewood Park and Kean immediately made the decision to leave him out of the pre-season trip to Austria and their domestic summer campaign.

Nzonzi has been training on his own at Brockhall so far this summer but, valued at up to £10million by Rovers, has been left in limbo due to a reluctance from rivals to meet the asking price.

Rovers are understood to not have received a single bid for the midfielder but, after a meeting with the player’s agent yesterday morning, it was agreed Nzonzi would be allowed to leave on loan.

The Lancashire Telegraph understand Nzonzi would not play for Rovers again while Kean was in still in charge and that he was not prepared to play outside the top division.

Rovers though have left the door open for him to return next summer, if circumstances change, as they refuse to sell the player for less than they think he is worth.

Nzonzi was signed by former Rovers boss Sam Allardyce for a nominal fee from French second division outfit Amiens in 2009 on a four-year deal.

He quickly established himself as a first team regular, with a number of Premier League sides understood to have shown an interest in him in past seasons.

Nzonzi signed a bumper five-year deal in August 2010, with Rovers not yet ruling him out returning from Spain to see out his contract and beyond at Ewood Park.

On his day he's a very technically gifted player. However, those days seemed to be few and far between last season so how the club can value him at £10M is astonishing. Perhaps the club are hoping that he plays well enough in La Liga to justify their valuation. That said, bad attitude or not, we've now lost our best defensive midfielder without recieving any funds to replace him with. I'm guessing all of this was wrapped up by Singh though so the part about leaving the door open should circumstances change may indicate that N'Zonzi would be happy to return to Rovers should there be a change of manager.

Kean's excellent relationship with the players continues. The fat lady supported him after the Bolton game because she thought the players were playing for him, well that now looks like a lie!

All established players that can spot a bullshittter, spot Kean, and fall out with him. Nzonzi was probably giving him some tips to tighten up our defence, but was told by Kean its my way or the highway.

Please Shabby make yourself an Blackburn legend forever and get Kean sacked before the season starts, the man is a loser. Last night was a friendly but proves that we still havn't got a winning mentality. How can a sucessful business women like Mrs. D think we will be flying at the top of the league with our pre season?

Fair comment, although I'd say that the owners inability to run a football club is equally to blame. I'm pretty certain that the managers of their hatcheries and pharmaceutical companies wouldn't keep their jobs if they failed to meet their targets so I think their decision to keep Kean on isn't because they're not business savvy. It's more to do with bad advice from the off-set - which no doubt led to their delusions of grandeur - and the fact that Mrs Desai is plainly too stubborn to admit that she was wrong.

Nzonzi doesn't want to play in the Championship, so unless we are promoted by Christmas the recall clause might allow Venky's to sell him during the January transfer window.

It is obvious by now that the Venky's don't care less about BRFC. What most of us can't understand is why? If you buy something it is usually because you want it. You want to move forward and improve what you have bought. Nobody downloads a program update believing it will be a step backwards. So why are they consistently going backwards? They started out buying a club with a fantastic record of maintaining a good position in the PL, they then allowed it to be relegated. Now they are going for a repeat relegation. If they have bitten off more than they can chew they should bite the bullet and admit defeat, sell up and move on.

I can't do the maths but it's my opinion that money is being taken out of BRFC, why else would the Venkys not give a toss, all this it's our "Baby" bullsh#tt just does not add up.

They don't attend matches they employ an absolute loser as a manager, some thing I bet they don't do in there other business interests.

It's mind boggling realy, I don't think they now how much hatred and anger they have caused either.

Hatred to a fellow human being is not the norm but it's got to the stage whilst I don't know Kean personally I do hate him for what he has done to my club, my town, it's like he cannot except he is a failure, that in itself is not a problem we all fail at something in life but when it affects so many other people it should be stopped and stopped quickly.

Yep, it’s come to this, can’t get the energy to talk about the team anymore…if you want to make a few bob have a bet on us getting relegated.
Sad times when someone like yourself states that.

500 miles round trip wasn't it? You always thought it was worth it but not anymore.

Hope you get a bet on at 20/1, the odds will be much less come October/November. Watched 'em last night, not much to excite.

You buy one you get one free, I say you buy on you get one free ha ha ha ha ha smacks of pure desperation to me. Your going sooooooooooooooooooo oon Keano We will win, cant wait for Ipswich, 0-3 down Keans top lip sweating, and then wait for the after match bullsh@t I thought we controlled the game for long periods, we where unlucky not to get 9 goals, the keeper played well, but the players (them thats left) are all behind me. An absolute joke of a manager, Mrs Desai he may not have told you this but he is the worst manager BRFC has ever had.
you forgot keans other fav after match quote; well get on the training ground on monday and work on it: the knobhead!
He can go on the training ground with out his minder because that naughty Mr Nzonzi has gone to Spain.

There's nobody saying very much and maybe they have reasons for saying nowt.

I think you will find that Mr Shabby is yet another performer in the Venky circus....don,nt expect anything but "woffle" from this mouthpiece....ESPECI
ALLY NOT A MAJOR DECISION TO SACK KEAN,
Again it is obvious the only players conman Kean will attract to the club are freebies, youth and older professional desperate for a 2/3 years contract not being offered elsewhere...
Then there is the BIG question of the quality of his backroom squad of "coaches", etc....PLUS not a very good string of "friendly" results to date either....PLUS there are a number of players yet to leave before the season begins.
One gets the impression we are NOT going to be hitting the ground running with a unified squad with a string of positive results pre-season.
THE DECISION TO CONTINUE WITH CONMAN KEAN IS UNBELIEVEABLE....FRO
M WHOEVER PULLS THE STRING AT EWOOD PARK.

Got to say I agree with you there somewhat.. if people are stupid enough to pay you for a job you clearly are not capable of doing, you can hardly blame someone like Kean, who could never have dreamed of being a club manager for milking it. Its all well and good pointing to the moral compass, but few would do any different and resign and admit their own incompetence.

The blame does land fairly and squarely at Benny's door and it will be interesting to see, having shown loyalty to their manager and admitting they had also made mistakes, having given Kean the freedom to build his own squad, whether they have the cahones to dismiss him should results not go our way early in the season.

I've been badgering Andy Cryer to do this since January, but so far all efforts have fallen on deaf ears.
Salgado, Nelsen, Samba, Roberts, Andrews, Jensen, Newsome, Hunt - I'm sure they could all blow the lid on this horror story. There is enough evidence/conjecture/
rumour in circulation to ask plenty of pertinent questions.
And before anyone starts throwing in the problem of confidentiality clauses, there are easy ways around those - if, indeed, there are any.
Come on Andy and editor Kevin Young. Andrews, Hunt and now N'Zonzi have said enough for you to 'follow up' these statements and expose the mystifying mess at Ewood. Do your job. You would not be able to print enough papers!
