FULL TIME: Accrington Stanley 1 Blackburn Rovers 0

PAUL Robinson’s error allowed Accrington Stanley trialist Brian Smikle to give the Reds victory over Blackburn Rovers in a friendly this afternoon.

Former Cheltenham wide man Smikle met a cross from fellow trialist Adam Rundle and diverted a header goalwards in the 66th minute, although few expected Robinson to allow the ball to slip through his fingers and squirm over the line.

Seconds earlier Stanley had hit the post through another trialist, James Gray, who fired in a low shot from 20 yards.

Rovers were second best for long spells as Stanley kept possession neatly, although Blackburn trialist Edinho hit the post in the final seconds of the match.

Rovers: Paul Robinson (Seb Usai 72); Bradley Orr (Raheem Hanley 46), Grant Hanley, Anthony O’Connor, Adam Henley; Ruben Rochina, Jason Lowe, Radosav Petrovic, Marcus Olsson (Hugo Fernandez 46); David Dunn (Edinho 72); David Goodwillie (Curtis Haley 80).

Stanley: Ian Dunbavin (Andrew Dawber 89); Craig Lindfield (Adam Stockdale 89), Toto Nsiala (Tom Eckersley 60), Dean Winnard (Peter Murphy 60), Michael Liddle; Luke Joyce (Ryan Hopper 89), George Miller (Bohan Dixon 79); Charlie Barnett (Adam Rundle 54), Luke Clark (Will Hatfield 54), Aidan Chippendale (Brian Smikle 46); Marcus Carver (James Gray 46).

Attendance: 1,879.

I know the Stanley game was a pre season friendly and I also know today was about getting fit and we had 2 experimental teams out. I do however get the impression that we are going to have a real struggle this season, largely due to an incompetent manager and having only 3-4 players up to this standard.

I hope I am wrong but I think it will be the bottom half not the top half of the table we will be looking at and I do fear the worst!

And then Vooom, until we find our level.

Looks like he didn't need to go all the way to Portugal, he should've gone to Accy and picked up a few bargains, save on relocation costs and less of a language barrier.

On a positive note its one more defeat Kean has against his record which will mean he gets sacked sooner rather than later, or to stop that happening he will have to sell another couple of players to keep the Venky paymasters happy.

Very poor display by Rovers second string. Unless of course you think Goodwillie will get in ahead of Nuno Gomes and Dunn instead of Danny murphy.
Too many players in this team from last year, with last years hangovers, Robinson continuing last seasons dismal form. Bunn is a far better alternative. Still if we get relagated again its down to Kean not acting on last years failings. Defence were very poor last year.

A strong defence is missing in action. Kean need to work very hard to get the 11 in action and fire the bench to get more goals.

Come on Wildy, if we had won both convincingly you would have been giving us anti-Kean brigade a right ear bashing, and I am not obsessed by the results either, friendlys mean nothing really but you can see the Accy Stanley manager going in there dressing room and saying "Its only a friendly lads" or would he have gone in and said "Great start lads let keep this going"

This is a major concern because the championship is a 46 game slog, and we will be reliant on our second 11 to play a significant parts of the season. If this is the response from them, then we need to do some more transfer activity!
-
The other elephant in the room, is of course having Kean still as manager. No matter how good your players, you wont win jack **** with a rubbish manager!
-
The other thing this highlights is that its time Robinson goes. Useless and Mark Bunn is far superior in every way and deserves his chance.

I wonder what Kean and Hendry said in our dressing room after this match, "my mate Wildy says its not massively important or significant, its only a friendly"!
take my point?
No because I would have the same reaction if we had won 12-0 I genuinely have never attended friendlies as I think they are meaningless

Which is why I disagree with anyone trying to make capital out of them
Please correct me if I am wrong but, I seem to recall pre season 94/95 we actually didn't win any of our matches. Whether this tells us pre season is meaningless, or it is better to get all your losses out of the way before the real matches I will leave to the indivdual. Me, I believe the former.
This is not to say I have any kind of faith in anything occuring at Rovers (under Venkys SK, I don't). This in respect of a swift return.
IMHO we will languish in the Champs mid/lower.

Pre season 94/95 was organised by a proffesional Manager and we were a top half team, so experimental tinkerings were at foot. We've just had the season from hell, and are in need of a lift, despite all the positive forward talking the football has been poor. But as the season starts there will be something to talk about.

Two comments, although I could make several:-
1) Kean was enjoying himself at Royal Lytham on Friday, where he happlily posed to have his photograph taken with a "fan", whom he didn't know from Adam. Wouldn't you think that with a High Court writ having been served against him and the club he would have more sense than to place himself in what could be another dubious situation. And why was he having a jolly? His time would have been better spent searching for a defense (said after witnessing the debacle at Accrington yesterday).
2) Kean and his employee, Singh were casually conversing at the Crown Ground between games, basking in the sunshine, as though they hadn't a care in the world. Some of us, of a certain age, will remember "Sunny" Jim Callaghan, returning from a world leaders conference in Barbados in early 1979, whilst those at home were suffering the winter of discontent and upon landing at Heathrow, sun tanned and relaxed he said "Crisis, what crisis?". It lost him the ensuing election and the Labour Party spent 18 years in opposition as a result. Venky's, it will be at least 18 years away from the Premiership unless you take imminent action against this deplorable man.

I'm not with you on Robbo, check out the opta stats from last year, worst goalkeeper in the PL by a mile. Shots per save percentage cannot be cheated, it shows how consitent a goalkeeper you are, and Robbo was consitently rubbish. Get Bunn in goal, his stats speak for themselves too.
Same defenders jsut a better score and that was against united too in one of his games.
If he was any good he'd still be at Tottenham and playing for England.
He doesn't get extra opta points for supporting the protesters y'know, he's just not good enough any more.

Heard from a good source within the club that Kean and Agnew are already trying to get Shebby Singh out as they don't like it that he was put in the club by Venkys. As far as I'm concerned this really shows who actually owns the club. You make your own minds up.

Chris Samba was our leader before this junk took over, and he went awol with his abilities, same can be said for most other good professionals, I include Robbo in that because I'm mature enough to see the real problem. Don't let that stop you dreaming of success though. It's a free country.

My only interest in the club now is reading and responding to the articles and comments on the LT site. Until Kean goes any of his comments purchases and team selections are treated with disdain. He couldn't organise a booze up in a brewery and as a drunkard that shouldn't be beyond him, but it is! I now feel disenfranchised from a club I have supported for nearly sixty years. I cannot bring myself to attend any of next season's matches, as the anguish I suffered last season was too much to bear. I do not blame those fans that cannot bring themselves to boycott the matches and have renewed their STs. But being realistic can anybody honestly say they are optimistic for the coming season? And if so where does that optimism come from? It can't be the manager or new players, the owners or the back room staff. It can only be blind faith and an incredible naivity.

Come on you guys, the day I read anything into a pre-season result is the day I need to start taking medication. They are warm up games, nothing more. I know your problems run deeper than that, but it was a friendly kick about that meant so much more to Accy's trialists than anybody else.

A few years ago I saw Burnley walloped 4-1 at Rochdale in pre-season. We finished the season beating Stockport at Wembley in the play off final and promoted to what was then Division 1.

Pre-season means nothing, I know you're frustrated but wait until the games start in earnest.

Well. Steve Keane aside; aren't the Stanley looking good for the new season! This 'second string' could well have been the Rovers line up in a cup game against a team of Stanley's stature and I think many of them will feature in the first team this season. This kind of spirited performance in cup games should see us through a few rounds next year. Get them trialists signed up and I think we're ready to go.

I totally agree, how can someone have their picture taken in a public place, thats obviously a hanging offence, do MI5, the FBI and the CIA know of this terrorist activity? Next he will be smiling and shaking hands, someone should send in the SAS before its too late.

He was worried about all the other teams having sent spies to see what his secret was. So his tactic was to win one lose one so they thought he knew what he was doing. Of course as usual he didn't.

Why are you making excuses for the result if it don't mean nowt? It's a measure of where they are and given Kean's loose talk about making other teams afraid, he's going to do a little better, because it's a football team and you are judged on your results in football games.

Nobody wants to lose against lower league oposition, especially when you predict big things for the team. Why can't you see it for what it is a friendly trial match? It's no big deal, he practised losing most of last year, I'm sure he'll be pleased he hasn't lost his touch.

Bear in miond that if you believe Kean's predictions for his team, you should put your best dollars on Accy wining the Prem in the next few seasons.

Dear Mr RUinsane,

Please will you tell me if I am qualified to post on here.

I can remember seeing Tommy Briggs play (not clearly though). I remember where I was when we won promotion at Charlton. I remember being at Turf Moor, BeeHole End, 3-3 in t'cup and at Maine Road for the 2-1 win over Sheff Wed. Didn't do Wembley but a good story as to why not. Peter Dobing was my favourite player.

1966 was not a good year for BRFC fans. Moving on, the only play-off game I ever missed was the return at Stamford Bridge. Worst footballing day of my life EVER, was at Palace. Top 2 away games, Boxing Day in Dingle land and 4-1 win at Millwall in '88.

Mr Tugay my all-time favourite. Apart from winning the title, some of my best footballing memories were pre-Uncle Jack.

I renewed my ST for this season but then requested a refund.

Can I post please without be classed as a doom and gloom merchant?

I do not blame those fans that cannot bring themselves to boycott the matches and have renewed their STs. But being realistic can anybody honestly say they are optimistic for the coming season? And if so where does that optimism come from? It can't be the manager or new players, the owners or the back room staff. It can only be blind faith and an incredible naivity.
I don't know about anyone else on here but as far as the Rovers are concerned then I am guilty as charged to he counts of naivety and blind faith plus of course that darned eternal optimism. For me it comes with the territory. Rovers fan = Hard Times. It has never been easy being a Rovers fan and have had to put up with jokes and pity from other fans (and non Rovers fan friends) for almost all my life. This is almost certainly one of the hardest times ever to endure but like all the rest of the bad times we will come out of it at some point.

Time brings change and time will see Kean and the Venkys go from the club. Who knows where we will be when that happens but happen it will. Hopefully sooner rather than later. But I can see past their awful presence and still look to see my team do well every game.

I have to admit that i am cautiously optimistic about the coming season. I think we will have a sound squad with a good mixture of experience and youth and skill - and also think that we have a decent chance of at least making the play-offs. Lets face it - the chumpionship is pretty awful..... :)

It is not a case of being positive or negative. It is a case of looking at the facts. Now my Maths are hopeless but I am sure somebody can furnish us with the statistics for Kean's reign. His points gathered must be the worst in any managers occupancy of the job. What makes anybody think it is going to suddenly change? Only a complete change of tack will help. New manager to start with then new ownership then start the long process of rebuilding not only the team but the club itself.

It lost him the ensuing election and the Labour Party spent 18 years in opposition as a result. Venky's, it will be at least 18 years away from the Premiership unless you take imminent action against this deplorable man.
I totally agree, how can someone have their picture taken in a public place, thats obviously a hanging offence, do MI5, the FBI and the CIA know of this terrorist activity? Next he will be smiling and shaking hands, someone should send in the SAS before its too late.
An attempt at satire, Mr Agnew?

I don't mind anyone posting at all, what I don't like is all the name calling because people have different viewpoints. I tend to find that people who have renewed whilst p1ssed off are quite level headed and reasonable. The trouble stokers are usually the ones with the self imposed boycott going on.
Personally I don't care either way, either you go, or you don't but if someone pushes my buttons prepare to get p1ssed off with the resultant mud slinging contest.

TBH, you do come over as Mr Angry at times. I think I'm at the point, possibly like yourself, that, we've all decided where we stand, and now we are not for moving.

I am aware of your opinions, I hope you respect mine.

I also wish we could remove the devisive element between the fans. I firmly believe we have a future (quite where I haven't a fecking clue!)

Was telling my missus yesterday about grown men at Ewood last season, squaring up to each other over Venky's/Kean.

I have never witnessed in my years such division of opinion. Jim Iley was a joker, a clown. Our friend Mr Kean is a ringmaster. Still not sure how someone can quite justify they can remain in a managent position while failing. Rewarding failure alludes me.

Whatever. Business is business.

I'll be around when we pick up the pieces.

NB.

Wiggins is King!

I don't know why the comments were removed. As far as I was aware (at the last time of reading) comments were made about Hendry ripping his elderly neighbours off for £85,000 (minus £2,000 he was ordered to pay back) and then sending them abusive text messages seemingly boasting of their loss and his gain. That story is in the public domain and is most certainly not defamatory. Another story reports of Hendry being sacked by ESPN because they didn't want to be associated with him. IT SEEMS ROVERS ARE MORE THAN HAPPY TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS TYPE OF INDIVIDUAL. IT ALSO SEEMS THE LET ARE HAPPY TO PROTECT HENDRY AND EVEN RECOMMEND HIM FOR A JOB (CLAIMING HE DESERVES A CHANCE)!!

Wiggins and Cav.......could do with spirit like that in our team!

Yup, some people just can't be told. Still, you live by the sword, you die by it.
Clearly ESPN feel he's had enough chances. The bloke has let Rovers down twice, reportedly been banned from re-entering the club by Jack Walker, ripped his elderly neighbours off to the tune of £85,000 (which you seem to condone), taunted them with sick text messages, attempted to get them in trouble with the police and if that wasn't enough he has a poor managerial record. Why don't you contact ESPN and spread your poison to them. Perhaps everyone else is wrong apart from Hendry, Kean and yourself (together with your numerous accounts). Funny how your various guises were critical of Big Sam as well as supportive of Kean. Backstabbing T0sser!!

here here... to many on the negative bandwagon
You seem to be missing the point that 'according to plan/Kean'' we were not even intended to be in the Champs (we were top 10 Prem. material).
The Champs is pretty awful ? You say this even before we have been 'tested' in it ! On the other hand we are deservedly in it, so that makes us ???
This sounds very much like a Keanism.

If you don't mind me saying, this to me is very disrectful of our competitors, very much like the view toward the Kean out brigade.

Not really, whats wrong with having your picture taken?
RU Insane when kean poses with fans it kind of makes a mockery of the club employing a chauffeur, I mean a bodyguard for kean to protect him from the fans???

Also is it true that the Athens game is at Fleetwood as the club have a problem with their safety certificate??

Time after time debates over the happenings at our club degenerate into slanging matches, could this please stop and only stick to reasoned, civil debating.

Wrong, the plan was to win one and lose one,so as to keep both sets of Rovers fans happy.
Pity about Dembele,i went ,really,to watch him.Got told he did a bunk backhome from the hotel.
If you read one posters 'in depth search' on this guy (if true) its not so unbelievable, and fairly worrying. However, he would make a good room mate for Goodwillie, Carroll, or Merson.

I really don't know why I bother replying to you but you really get up my nose with your rubbish. But I am making this my last reply to your insults and abuse. You clearly cannot hold a reasoned debate without posting insults so whats the point.

Just to clear-up a few things:
You would not find one post on here from me over the last year or so that says anything other than Kean out. Open your eyes smelly and read all the posts.

I do not come on here and spread poision about anyone.
Again there is not one post on here that would show that.

I never abuse or insult anyone on here (apart from you in response to your continued abuse!) - unlike you who seem to have some kind of paranoia about all things Rovers that don't align with your running down of all things that seem to support the club and its fans.

I accept other posters views (even JC and I agree sometimes) and try and reply with constructive points or certainly with honest feelings and thoughts. (That obviously don't agree with yours - so cue abuse).

I also cannot really understand your obsession that everyone who doesn't take your view of all things at Ewood must have multiple accounts? What is that all about. I have posted on here for three to four years now and only as FR. People on here know me personally and though we don't always agree on everything they do know my love for the club (for over 50 years now) and they know that what I say is always with honesty.

It would be nice if just one of these comments gave Stanley some of the credit they deserve for a game well played on Saturday. In previous pre-season games v Rovers, the difference in class of players has been apparent - not so this year I'm afraid. Our boys looked much fitter than they usually do at this stage & this must be due to the new management team's training regime. Can't wait for the real season to start after getting a taste of it on Saturday - could be a good one :)

And he is getting one, so moan all you like - its what you do best anyway. Or should that be worst?[/p]
Backstabbing T0sser!![/p]
I really don't know why I bother replying to you but you really get up my nose with your rubbish. But I am making this my last reply to your insults and abuse. You clearly cannot hold a reasoned debate without posting insults so whats the point. Just to clear-up a few things: You would not find one post on here from me over the last year or so that says anything other than Kean out. Enough said now......let the insults fly![/p]
Haha what an absolute load of rubbish....and "let the results fly!" - what is all that about?? . You said the same rubbish last season and the one before. You have been proven wrong time and time and time again. How you can keep coming out with the same rubbish is beyond belief. We're on a constant plummet toward oblivion and you still keep saying the world is rosey. Wake up t0sser!! These idiots are stripping every inch of meat from the Jack Walker carcass. They don't care where the club ends up as long as their pockets are lined. smellthecoffee

I think you will find (if you studied the games) that the goals against had a fair amount to do with the 10 guys in front of him, and no little help from the guy on the touchline!!!
Here here...if it wasn't for Robbo then we would have been relegated by Christmas. I've noticed then ones who have been critical of Robbo are the same ones who seem to be looking forward to Championship football under Kean. Wouldn't be the Ewood PR team out again to get rid of Robbo and his hefty salary by any chance?? I suppose the more going out...the less going into their greedy sweaty pockets.

Could I please request that all posters stop berating and arguing with each other, especially the abusive ones. And all personal comments toward CH cease as it is unjustified i.e. if any one of you are actually personally involved with any of his alledged dealings (which I very much doubt) keep it in the proper place and not on here.
Time after time debates over the happenings at our club degenerate into slanging matches, could this please stop and only stick to reasoned, civil debating.

Cant say you were not warned. I pointed out certain possible infringements under the 2003 Act and as usual on here I was treated to a barrage of abuse.
However it looks like some people may be facing action.
Just my opinion of course.....
Yup, some people just can't be told. Still, you live by the sword, you die by it.
