The old adae is hat stikers hunt in pairs, but we seem to have buced the trend. Who hunted with Pointer, the rest of the front 5? Was Robson the equal of Pointer. Irvine was a class act by himself yet Casper and Fletcher must be mentioned in the same breath. Hamilton was in a poor team but I watched him destroy the Tottenham defence one night at White Hart Lane (if memory serves me correctly Brian Miller had 'relinquished his duties' that afternoon). Blake could be superb but he came to us too late; Payton was the man for that moment; what was Coates against Naples if not a striker; and I've forgotten to mention Andy Lochead (Brian Labone's favourite' centre forward). In order of preference I nominate:
Irvine;
Blake; and
Pointer

When I was a young lad, many years ago, Saturday always meant a football match, and it was Rovers one week, Burnley the next. Obviously, as I grew up it had to be just Rovers!!

My nomination for strikers would be Ray Pointer and Andy Lorimer Lochhead if Rovers fans opinions count, probably not!!??

Also appreciated Steve Kindon, and remember him being stretchered off at Ewood. Normally there would be polite applause for an away player leaving the pitch in such a manner, but no, there were loud cheers. Within five minutes he was back on the pitch running through his usual brick walls as though nothing had happened to him. Amazing!!

Adi akinbiyi was head and shoulders above all you losers, you failed to spot the potential of the abs. He should still be with you and should be first name on the team sheet. His misses from 0.5 yard are legendary. Brings a tear to my eye.

Paul Fletcher - if only for his over head kick that meant we beat Leeds, who were then champions, on their own turf!!!! Elland Road silenced as dirty Leeds were humiliated - Classic!!
