Accrington Stanley postpone testimonial games

ACCRINGTON Stanley have been forced to postpone testimonial matches for former management duo John Coleman and Jimmy Bell because the Crown Ground pitch will not be ready in time.

Stanley had been due to play Rochdale for Coleman's benefit game on Saturday before facing Burnley for Bell's testimonial four days later.

But both games have now been postponed, with no new dates set at this stage.

A Stanley statement said: "This summer's excessively wet weather has resulted in the Crown Ground playing surface being slightly behind the anticipated schedule.

"As a result, the club are keen to give the pitch as much time as possible to be the best it can for the start of the new season, and avoid problems later in the year.

"Alternative dates for the benefit matches are being discussed."
