Blackburn Rovers wait for Silva

BLACKBURN Rovers remain locked in talks with Sporting Lisbon as they look to capture the signature of in-demand Adrien Silva.

Rovers have been leading the chase for the 23-year-old for the past fortnight but, as of last night, had yet to reach agreement with his Portuguese employers.

The former Portugal under 21 skipper is believed to be keen on a switch to Ewood Park, following his compatriots Nuno Gomes and Fabio Nunes, but has yet to be granted permission to conclude any deal.

It is understood personal terms are unlikely to prove an issue once, and if, Sporting Lisbon have accepted Rovers bid.

Boss Steve Kean was initially hopeful he would have Silva on board before the club left for their training camp in Austria last night.

The club remain confident they can make Silva their fifth signing of the summer and would plan to fly him out to join with the rest of the squad later this week.

Sporting Lisbon are happy for Silva to leave this summer but only for the right price, with Marseille and Porto also interested in him.

Silva did return to pre-season training at Lisbon at the end of last week and is expected to continue this week – unless Rovers and Sporting can agree on their valuations.

Rovers see adding another central midfielder to the squad as a priority, to play alongside Danny Murphy, and have already bee forced to play a waiting game in their pursuit of Newcastle midfielder Dan Gosling.

Gosling is determined to give himself a last chance to succeed with the Magpies, but Rovers would be prepared to go back in for him loan if he changes his mind.

Meanwhile, Junior Hoilett is expected to decide on his future this week as a number of clubs continue to chase his signature.

As revealed in the Lancashire Telegraph on Saturday, Premier League QPR have joined the chase, along with the likes of Newcastle United and Sunderland.

Hoilett also has suitors from abroad, including Germany's Borussia Mönchengladbach, leaving him with a decision to make on where he wants to resume his career.

Rovers insist a new offer remains on the table for the Canadian starlet, after his contract expired at the end of last month, but Hoilett is still expected to start next season elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Rovers assistant chief scout Kevin Cruickshank is leaving Ewood Park for QPR.

For once a positive story as the club seem to know the player wants to sign and are just making sure they get value for money. All a bit out of character for Blackburn Rovers in 2012.

Good to see Hoilett still being offered a contract, will he sign it in the next 24 hours?

We all know that players want to leave Rovers, not just the obvious ones, yet the club only tell us who is coming in, I see this as another underhanded attempt to gain as much revenue now from ST sales as they can, Those unfortunate to have already bought a ST may be very disgruntled (again) come the start of the season. If your thinkin of purchasing a ST i would advise you to hold on as per usual all is not as clear as they are making things out to be.
Once you have purchased it then yer goosed, the only way to get this inept Manager out of our club is by at least 10,000 staying away and lettin the club know Kean is the reason why. We need some fresh strong legs like Samba to protect in the back.

If Kean continues to play his half a$$ed Allardyce "style", any midfielders will be spending most of their time in the treatment room recovering from a stiff neck.

Anyone seen a defender, by the way? This buffoon seems to the think defence is just something that goes 'round de garden.

Just how many players can we get in midfield then?

Would like to see De Silva but not in a 6 man midfield !

Looks like Junior is pricing himself out of a move, has been rejected by Everton and Newcastle as he wants 50k a weeks plus add ons.

I wonder how much our "new offer" is? Why do we continue to make him lucrative offers when he has not signed and made it plain he doesn't see his future at rovers. Personally I would rather he went if he doesnt want to be here, especially as rovers have been developing the guy since he was 13 and have stood by him. As we all know there is no loyality in football anymore, just money grabbers.

as above comments say who is gonna stop the ball going in the net?
.
last week's propaganda from pravda told us that just one more signing to come in: well we had better blooming hope that it is some kind of transformer that is capable of reproducing itself by a budding mechanism - cos we are desperately short.
.
i am assuming that olsson will be gone and clearly givet hates kean's guts and will only stay if nobody comes in for him. dann is collectively: disloyal to relegated teams, injury prone and not as good as he thinks he is....so even if he is there next season he is not exactly reliable.
.
so looks like kean's human shield - orr with the addition of: lowe hanley, henley, morris ribero and anderson (the last two are a joke by the way...not a joke by me but haw haw, not a very funny joke either) will make up our defence next season. maybe some more to graduate from the youth team. so, if the want-aways get away then we have in effect 5 defenders (and another possibly with dann) that are capable of playing first team football - - (as black adder said - it rhymes with "clucking bell"). at that rate kean doesn't want colin hendry as a coach - he wants him as a centre half!!!

Steve Kean told radio lancashire "Junior is out of contract and we've made him a very good offer," said Kean. "It's not dead yet.
"If a club in this country signs him, there will be big compensation. We'd like him still to be here but I'm in the dark a little bit."
The Rovers boss added: "When a player runs out of contract, you make him a good offer and he doesn't sign, you fear the worst, but we'll just have to wait and see."
.
you just have to love steve kean - he is our very own care in the community project.
.
he just refuses to learn - WTF is agnew doing letting this bloke roam free in front of a microphone - he should be in a straight jacket bound and gagged and under curfew....next it will be a case of "flying out to canada"...."just a case of dotting the "i"s and crossing the "t"s"...."junior will sign in the next 24 hours"...."as far as i know he has signed the new contract".
.
when you keep walking into rakes on the ground and they rise up and smash you in the face - logic says that you quickly learn - NOT LORD HAW HAW!!!
.
and for all of you that think that it is looking better at the club and we are getting some clarity - just look at the above kean quote - read it and weep.

i spoke with someone at the club just over two weeks ago and was told the number was 4,800 (i think that was net of returns, but cannot confirm that). the person concerned would know the correct number. note that was over two weeks ago now - so i am guessing round about up to 6k now?
.
the reality is that there will be no official number quoted and the regime will do everything possible to fudge the numbers. they will not however be able to argue against empty seats at the second game of the season. rest assured though every excuse in the book will be trotted out....summer holidays, too much sport after the olympics, glory hunter supporters only interested in premiership, the economy, blah blah blah.....what will never be mentioned is that fans staying away cos of 1) kean 2) venkys. we might not be able to change 2) overnight - but our wonderful owners could easily solve 1).

Quote from BBC.
"Best worked with Kean during his time at Coventry, when Kean was assistant to Chris Coleman at the Ricoh Arena.
"He did extra bits with me that he didn't need to," said the Republic of Ireland forward. "His training gets the players going.
"I love getting up in a morning and looking forward to going training, and being with Steve, I'll definitely be doing that. I could feel and see his ambition and I wanted to be part of it."
....what on earth do these players see in Kean????

Kean speaks Portugese, he's surrounding himself with these players so that:

A) He has a use
B) He might be harder to remove when no-one can speak to half the squad as they never bothered learning English.

There is nothing to suggest he wasn't a decent coach. BFS did hire him as one.

It's just like many before him (we've had Brian Kidd, remember) he is not a manager.

Nothing, but the £30,000 per week means they just say the first thing that comes into their head. They cant exactly say, I have signed for the money, even though I know Steve Kean has an appaling record! Or I came here, as I got a two year contract rather than staying were I was with a proper manager on a 1 year contract.

Very rarely does a player say what he really thinks when signing. Remember Lucas Neil moving to West Ham and the drivel he came out with?

glad to see everyone's focusing on the headline as usual kean this kean that im sick of hearing his name, as for silva i've watched him a few times and is technically as good as it get's, can't understand him joining rover's though unless a massive wage and if so we cannot justify leaving him or murphy on the bench. So saying that we will have a untested brand new midfield which we have needed since tugay went, should be interesting if anything

Summer Holidays over

Cant wait for the next prophecy to come from this guys lips to the owners stop listening to rumour and base your decisions on fact and Kean would and should have been dismissed - you will never convince the majority at Ewood while tis festering sore remains
even if you personally dont take the trouble to come to Ewood because you wont see Championship football out there much

Hmmm - started on a better note than previous seasons? Discuss. The season hasn't started by the way. Still, at least we haven't lost a game yet.
you mean the only way not to spoil the season record is not to play? hmm..maybe thats why the friendly is being played at fleetwood - so baldy can claim a perfect home record of zero losses? Cunning.. yet genius lol
We will be able to counter that with him having a zero % away record though.

The offer is on the table, we should hear something in the next 24 hours, just like Junior who is iching to sign a new deal, he just wants it written into his contract that he would like to be the second man, after Kean, to step foot on Mars. Silvas agent has a bit more about him and has demanded to see Keans six olympic golds so the deal could fall through as he's missplaced one of them, the one for the cockless pairs he won with Mylo Anderton, a bit of a late developer who has dissappeared with Keans medal.

This has to be the most exciting club for drama, are you sure we are not watching a new soap opera, imagine supporting manu or man city, now thats just boring, you already know what to expect, no fun in that. I suppose in soap operas the cast eventually get killed off, here's hoping...!

probably some Portugese agent that Kean and kentaro are in cahoots with hence the portugese players suddenly arriving >>
It,s like running their own little piggy bank but on a massive scale with the supporters (mugs) as customers !!!

Ive just realised the significance of all these Portuguese signings. Its the start of an advertising campaign for Venky's new range of chicken dishes "Piri Piri Chicken' and the Coq De Barcelos Kean is to head the campaign. Whats scarey is I actually believe it myself. The sooner the Venky's are gone the better.

What position does this lad play?

I've just read N'Zonzi wants away (shock, horror; quelle surprise) so if he is another supposed passer of the ball who can retain possession we may be in (further) trouble.

They can be as good as they want in possession, the problem is going to be getting hold of the ball in the first place. Looking at our defence, when they do get it, they're going to have to hold onto it for about 85 minutes.

Perhaps that's Kean's master plan.
