ACCRINGTON Stanley are due to hold further discussions with Brett Ormerod this week – and they are expected to complete the signing of Liverpool youngster Lewis Hatch at the start of July.
Stanley are understood to have already discussed terms with Hatch and are set to announce the capture of the 18-year-old midfielder once his contract at Liverpool expires at the end of this month.
Hatch has already revealed on Twitter that he expects to join Stanley and will arrive at the Crown Ground having worked with former Accrington midfielder Mike Marsh in the Liverpool under 18s team.
“Lewis is one of those who can play anywhere,” was Marsh’s recent description of the player, who is a central midfielder by trade but has on occasions featured in defence.
“He’s a good footballer who knows how to adapt.”
Stanley have already snapped up Toto Nsiala, Bohan Dixon and George Miller for next season and remain in contact with club legend Ormerod, who started his career with the Reds and has so far failed to reach agreement with Blackpool over a new deal at Bloomfield Road.
The 35-year-old forward said last week that ideally he would like to stay with the Tangerines but is open to offers from elsewhere, with a number of clubs interested.
“I’ve spoken to Brett a couple of times,” said Stanley assistant Leam Richardson, a long-time friend of Ormerod.
“He’s been on holiday and I’ve been on holiday but I’ll meet him again for a chat this week.
“I think there will always be interest from Brett because he loves the club and wants us to do well.
“I think he said in an interview once that he would like to finish his career at Accrington so we’ll have to see if that is still the case. Certainly it would be really nice if he did.”
The Stanley squad are due to return for pre-season on Monday but manager Cook and Richardson are already back at work and looking to bring in new players.
“We’re speaking to people and having meetings,” Richardson said. “We’re hoping to do things in the next two or three weeks.”
