Defender Givet fears Ewood exit after Welsh axe
8:18am Monday 16th April 2012 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
GAEL Givet fears he may have played his last game for Blackburn Rovers – as the club’s season reached crisis point at the weekend.
Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Swansea leaves Rovers still three points from Premier League safety with just four games to go and facing a disastrous defensive shortage.
Givet was withdrawn from Rovers’ squad on the morning of the game after Kean claimed he “was not in the right frame of mind” to play, having originally named him in his starting line up.
Contrary to reports, the Lancashire Telegraph understands the Frenchman did not refuse to play and that he was withdrawn after a heated exchange of words with the manager at the hotel pre match.
Givet’s absence forced Kean to play Jason Lowe as a makeshift left back and, with Grant Hanley now likely to miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury, Scott Dann is currently Rovers’ only available centre back.
The club will seek talks with Givet in the next few days to try to sort the situation but the player, who is expecting to be hit with a fine for his part, fears there is no way back.
Sources close to Givet say Givet has become increasingly disillusioned with life at Ewood Park and has made it known he wants a move away in the summer.
Due to a combination of injury and falling out favour, Givet has not featured in Rovers’ last five matches, all of which they have lost to slide back into the relegation mire.
Sources close to Givet say the player was “devastated” to not be involved on Saturday but that, after an argument between him and Kean Saturday morning, the manager decided he was not ‘mentally right’.
It is now understood Givet fears he will be left frozen out until the summer, leaving him helpless in the club’s fight to preserve their Premier League status. Suggestions his unavailability is due to ‘financial issues’ at the club are inaccurate.
Kean himself remain guarded on the situation but, while refusing to go into it, insisted Givet was not ready to play.
He said: “I spoke with Gael earlier Saturday morning and after a chat with him it was very apparent to me that he was not in the right frame of mind to be involved in this game.
“I don’t want to get involved into why, we will keep that private as a club, but it was very apparent he couldn’t be on the pitch.
“I’m not saying he doesn’t want to play. I’m saying his mindset was not right. The things we spoke about I will keep very private but we needed him today.
“We wanted him to play but after the chat that was not going to be the case. I had to select a side and a bench that was going to attempt to do what we needed to get points.
“We will speak with him again and if he is in a better frame of mind then great but today he was nowhere near in the right frame of mind and that is disappointing.
“I can’t get inside someone’s head. I can only tell him how much we need him and how much his team mates need him.
“I don’t know what the rumours are. I said to him we need you to play today, I need you to start and he was nowhere near in the right frame of mind to do that.”
As well as probably losing Hanley for the season through injury, Junior Hoilett (hamstring) and Yakubu (knee) were substituted early in the second half with injuries.
“This is not for me,” said Kean. “It is for everyone. It is for everyone’s team mates, the club, it is not for me. I am the same as the players and the fans, I want us to win but we have to win together and lose together. We have to play for each other and go the extra mile for each other.
“You look at David Dunn, his Achilles is screaming, Bradley Orr has taken an injection to play. We need players who are ready even if they are injured or even if their heads are not right for whatever reason.”

Who do you believe ?
With other clubs - Everton - its kept inhouse whereas SK seems to need a PR excuse why Rovers are loosing - this time down to Givet
Time to go Kean you have taken the club to the pits
No Season Ticket next year for me until there is a change of Manager - enough of the fairy tales and excuses - we are poor and deserve to be in the bottom 3

Well, join the club, Gael! So have we all. More lies from Kean, more shabby mis-management and more reasons for long-standing fans to find other things to do on Saturdays, rather than pay good money to help pay the wages of this appalling individual who constantly shames and disgraces the good name of our football club.
Kean out! Venky's out! And the sooner the better!

Sorry but my REAL comment to this story would not get past the eagle eye of the LET legal advisors (Anderson) - therefore I will simply state the obvious (which was quite clear in December when we lost 'vital' home games against the likes of West Brom, Bolton, Stoke) BRFC will be relegated this season and will become a standard Championship team with the same Manager - premier league football will be a thing of the past under these owners! Oh and how shocking was that when MOD highlighted the empty row of directors seats allocated to our owners and club directors, sorry 'one director' who could not take his seat as he was guided his team to another shocking display of football...sad times, no hope, no joy...good luck to those positive thinkers ;/

His arrogance knows no bounds, clearly the senior players saved the club last year but he knew better and got rid of them all thinking he could mould his own team with his genius in the transfer window and with tactics.
His only skill seems to be manipulating the media to buying in to his stories of being unlucky, false positions, refs cheating us, injuries, waiting for senior players to come back from (imaginary) injuries, new players bedding in, not having any transfer windows to replace senior players (the latest excuse!) as of Saturday morning........
Anyway you all know it - it's amazing we weren't relegated by March to be honest!

Kean was quoted saying that the Swans had been found out and that they were there for the taking. I was there on Saturday and apart from Dunn and Robinson you were rubbish. Little surprise that only 500 supporters travelled to watch them. The Swans might have been 'found out' but at least they play for the club and not the pay packet
Like you I was at the game and it was clear from the start that the players were already accepting that we are a relegated side.
Whilst Kean is the biggest pile of no hope clueless S--t imaginable, you would at least hope the players would have a little personal pride and put up a bit of a fight. Clearly Robinson and eventually Dunn pushed themselves to the limit, but the other players embarressed themselves with this pathetic show.
Swansea must be one of the smallest teams around but they physically dominated Rovers in every way possible on saturday, come on lads; grow a pair and get stuck in! ignore the idiot in the dugout and sort it out yourselves, if we are to go down at least go down fighting and with some spirit & pride in your performance.
On another point, I have not seen the full Kean interview following the game, but I believe he is claiming the injuries put us on the back foot starting with Olsen before the game followed by the injuries to Hanley, Junior & Yak! are we so dependent on Olsen that it destroys us as a team if he dosn`t play? and I don`t know what game the deluded one was watching but Swansea had taken us to the cleaners many time over long before Hanley & co had to go off. Typical **** from Kean, what a man.

The man is the most dishonourable person ever to hold the position of manager.
If he had an ounce of honour within him he would have walked at the end of last season and given the club at least an ounce of chance to survive, even under these owners.
He is nothing but a modern day Judas, selling out the fancs for his peices of silver.

The reason people are bigging Scummer Kean up is 'because he's proved he's no quitter'.
There's nothing wrong with quitting if you know you're not up to the task and you're humble enough to admit it.
Some qualities are overrated and 'not being a quitter' is one of them.
Kean is dragging the whole town down and that will mean people losing their jobs when Rovers go down. The other week, Tony Pulis successfully escaped a driving ban by arguing in court that if he were banned it might affect Stokes' chances of staying in the Premiership, and that if they were relegated it would adversely affect the economy of the city. The same argument is just as relevant for Blackburn, but Kean is too smug and arrogant to consider it. He has nothing but contempt for everyone living in and around Blackburn.

maybe when it's mathematically impossible, but whilst there is still a chance, i'd rather the crowd focused on supporting the team.
haven't posted on here for a while, due to the mindless ranting. i have to admit to feeling a little disappointed at the way we have played recently. the retention of the ball has been extremely poor and i think is largely to blame for the defeats.
add that to some poor tactical decision from both manager and players, and the chronic inexperience across the board, and i think you have one inevitable outcome.

Quite honestly my dad had better footballing credentials then Steve Kean. He played for London schoolboys with Steve Perryman, Arsenal youth team and finished his career with over 100 appearances in the conference (or whatever it was called back then).
It was an utter joke that Kean even got this job, let alone keep it.
Will we see an apology from the mainstream media who have slagged off our fans all season? I doubt it. So who has been proved right?
I said on this board LAST SEASON that even if we did survive (purely down to Big Sams points) that with Keans track record relegation was inevitable this season.
I have to admit he's exceeded my expectations as I thought we'd be down by now.
Our only realistic games to get points now is Norwich (h) and Wigan (h). That's 6 points. Given QPR and Wigan are 3pts clear (and showing a lot more fight with far more credible football men at the helm), for me there is no way to recover now.
Our only chance is if SK swallows his pride and gets Salgado, Vuckcevic and Givet involved in the team ASAP. We all know there's fat chance of this happening.
We can only pray that if we do go down Kean will do the decent thing, but even that seems unlikely to me. This guy has zero pride or accountability whatsoever. We'll be lucky to survive in the Championship with this clown.

We're a proud team with proud fans. If we get beat whilst trying our best that's one thing. But to act like a petulant child and sulk when things aren't going your way on the pitch is unacceptable.
Problem is thanks to SKs 'policy' of buying players and not using them (Vuckcevic), Nzonzi is all we have.
For all this patronising talk we've had from the likes of Lawronsen all season "they're still playing for him gary.." well just look at that clip of Nzonzi.
I do not believe the players are playing for him at all. And like with all our other senior pros who have had words and been forced out, Givet is next.
Even if Kean is a completely deluded wally, he has really shot himself in the foot this season with his apalling man management. You could actually make the nucleus of a pretty good team out the players he's alienated (and/or forced out) this season:
Salgado - Nelsen - Samba - Givet
Emerton - Vuckcevic - Diouf
Roberts - Kalinic
I'd take most of the above over our sorry shower right now. Even Diouf, at least he played 100% for our shirt.
Kalinic and Yakubu would have been a pretty decent strike force, no?

Venky are no fool's coupled with being astute business people, if not cut throat. They have taken a mercenary hand to our club that much is certain. To what ends I am unsure as yet ? Although pre season down at BRFC will shape the future for the foreseeable one ,at least !
Rid our club of Kean putting in place a manager of repute then I will return to watch my beloved Rovers. Little surprise that only 500 supporters travelled to watch them. The Swans might have been 'found out' but at least they play for the club and not the pay packet
You don't need to tell us we are rubbish matey boy. Just to bring you up to speed, the protests which have been shown on TV are NOT just aimed at Kean; the owners, who you may have noticed were not represented on Saturday, have ripped the heart out of our club leaving it in chaos and in real danger of total meltdown. TV's misrepresentation of the fans' actions has been disgraceful.
Kean is a master of targeting an opponent or run of games from which we are going to get points. Nothing unusual about that you might say. The problem is he doesn't keep these comments to himself but announces them to the world thereby immediately rubbing up those opponents as well as putting pressure on himself and the team.
We were sold the idea he was going to change the hoofball style of Sam only for us to descend into playing an ineffective, half-a$$ed version of it.
Rodgers at Swansea has shown the clown what sticking to your principles is all about and, in my opinion, deserves to be manager of the year. Kean on the other hand has repeatedly shown he does not possess the b@ll$ to do anything a normal, self respecting manager would do, be it sticking to his guns (whatever they are) or standing up to the owners. It is also been suggested he is a less than honourable individual.
Did you know he is a client of agent Jerome Anderson?
Did you know Mr Anderson was also advising the new owners (who had admitted not knowing anything about football) when Kean, his client, got the job after Sam was sacked? Had you ever heard of Steve Kean before he got the job? Do you think anyone who knew nothing about football would have?
Go figure.
Did you know Sam suggested he had been stabbed in the back (something denied by both Kean and his agent/owner’s advisor)?
Did you know he travels to India every month to give them an update? Mind you, they have only bothered coming to Blackburn once since last November.
Did you know he has players foisted on him by parasitic individuals (agents/advisors) without any reference to him?
Did you know he has not picked players (Salgado, Roberts are the one’s we know for sure) because they would be entitled to a contract extension/additional payments ?
Well now you do and the list could go on.
This excuse for a man has lied consistently to the supporters and is seen as a puppet for the owners. In short, pathetic.
Looking at them from a distance, by the way, Swansea have been outstanding this year, a breath of fresh air almost. Perhaps you just need a little more pace and guile up top; I’m sure that will come when the additional income and kudos from your time in the Prem. kicks in and Rodgers will be able to strengthen the squad.
Their style of football is to be admired. I for one wish them every success.

Seriously I talked to Paul Robinson in the Merriott after the game and he was really *issed off and his words were "The attitude and application of the players was a disgrace"
I have had a Season ticket for 33 years but no more . Venkys and Kean are taking us down and like a cancer we need to cut them out - starve them of funds .

BFS has spent a fortune (by Championship/Venkys standards) and is still scrapping for automatic promotion.
What about their previous half dozen home games?
Can we please get out of this rose tinted view of everything being sweetness and light (on the field at least) when BFS was here?

SACK KEAN NOW - Before he can do anymore damage. 6 experienced Prem defenders now missing since start of season (Jones, Salgado, Givet, Samba, Nelson, Emerton) and with young Hanley injures we only have desparate Dan left. If we sack him at least then we can start to rebuild from the Championship. . Don't renew ST's until he is gone. Massive chants against Kean on Saturday as we are down anyway. . He has To Go!
maybe when it's mathematically impossible, but whilst there is still a chance, i'd rather the crowd focused on supporting the team.
haven't posted on here for a while, due to the mindless ranting. i have to admit to feeling a little disappointed at the way we have played recently. the retention of the ball has been extremely poor and i think is largely to blame for the defeats.
add that to some poor tactical decision from both manager and players, and the chronic inexperience across the board, and i think you have one inevitable outcome.
.
Experienced player after experienced player has been shown the door for daring to question the Hitler Kean and yet he is going to leave with a big pay-off because of how naive Venkys are.
.
We will all be behind the lads on Saturday but I tell you most of the players are probably secretly cheering inside if we sing "Kean Out".
.
Perhaps we ought to change the song to "Kean OuT - Come on You Blues", "Kean Out - Come On You Blues" then the players know who we blame for this Kean self inflicted disaster?

No good keep blaming Kean. He's merely the front man/stooge. The real problem is the Rao family and their "advisers". If they go Kean will surely follow albeit, it is too late now, i only hope we don't drop straight through the Championship. Something I think is a distinct possibility with them in charge.
Is anybody forcing him to stay as manager? He could leave at any moment if he so wishes.
He must realise deep down by now SURELY that he is not cut out for top flight management. Far better men then him have quite managerial posts as they see the club needs a change.
So if he's causing so much distress to a club, causing many employees at the club to lose their jobs next year, and if he has to have a bodyguard (sure), then why not just... LEAVE?
Answer... £ £ £
And that my friend is despicable. Don't get me wrong, Venkys are clearly the main culprits, but Kean has played his part in this disgusting Rovers period. First by backstabbing Big Sam, and now by refusing to let go of his one chance in football top flight management and very cushty salary.

I refuse point blank to give anymore of my money to the money grabbing manager and owners. I will from now on support the club from afar, hoping that the owners and manager do the decent thing and get the hell out of Ewood Park so that we can rebuild from the ashes left behind. In the mean time I will continue my love of football by watching Darwen FC. At least they try.

Have you not got a buy back clause to protect the club?

Kean was quoted saying that the Swans had been found out and that they were there for the taking. I was there on Saturday and apart from Dunn and Robinson you were rubbish. Little surprise that only 500 supporters travelled to watch them. The Swans might have been 'found out' but at least they play for the club and not the pay packet

BJS wrote:Wrong, wrong, wrong. I'm sorry mate, but Kean absolutely deserves some blame here.

Don't blame the Walkers Trust, nor expect them or the FA to take any action to bail us out. venkys have paid their money, they can do whatever they wish. The fact they have ripped the heart out of our club is morally wrong but no more than that. Don't ask kean to resign, his ego won't allow him.
So expect a mass exodus/clear out over the summer, replaced by poor/cheap replacements which in turn likely means another relegation.
Don't renew season tickets and don't go to Ewood. Very drastic I know, but we need to hasten he venkys exit and I can't think of any other way to do it.

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean hopes the latest planned protest by a section of the club's fans does not distract his team.
Rovers are mired in a relegation struggle and Kean has been a target for some of the Ewood Park boo-boys already this season.
And the Scot believes his charges can escape the drop by producing performances similar to those that earned an away draw at Liverpool and victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Kean said: "I hope that the protest is small. The fans inside the ground of late have been excellent and the travelling fans have been very good.
"We have a young team that has certainly performed better when the atmosphere has been hostile towards the opposition and I am hopeful that they will continue to support us.
"We have a focus and that is on breaking the sequence that we are in, making sure we can get a good start in the game and I am very confident that we can get a result this week.
"If you can go to Anfield and draw, and go to Old Trafford and win, there is no reason why we can't beat Norwich and Wigan at home and take something from the games away at Spurs and away at Chelsea."
"He's very confident" - again.

Even though the MAJORITY of the supporters have held off the last couple of months from protesting at your blatantly obvious shortcomings in your team selection, the team fitness level to your tactics through to the after-match comments (how the hell the players follow you I do not know !?)....
They cannot be expected to accept this continuing crap without showing some of their frustration...
So expect reaction on either or both of the last two home games ...you have only yourself to blame for your many shortcomings and deceit throughout.

Absolute disgrace and shambles at once was a proud club with loyal supporters.
The people I feel sorry for are the admin staff at Ewood because without a doubt P45s will be on there way very shortly while others who dont desreve sympathy will still have their noses in the trough.
The real problem will be to get anyone who knows football to come and manage the club but thats no reason not to seek a change NOW

I didn't reniew my ticket at the beginning of the season and it breaks my heart to say so. However by buying a season ticket you are not 'supporting' Blackburn Rovers - you are supporting Venkys business interests.
I have been polite and have shown respect to people like yourself but now I am starting to believe that you are not helping our club.
What you are doing is almost feeding crime. Hit them where it hurts or they will stay. It's not rocket science.

Relegation might be the best option for us anyway. I can't see venkys getting bored until the parachute payments end 4 years after relegation. We might have to wait that long. Maybe kean will still be manager til then too. I know that sounds awful, but not much we can do if they won't go. Nobody wanted to buy Rovers, no-one will want to buy us until we are affordable and/or venkys realise they can only get about £20M for us. Hence the Supporters Trust idea of selling 20,000 shares at £1,000 each. More departures will follow in the summer, followed by even cheaper replacements. The Venkys will stay as long as they can strip the club of funds, as soon as the well runs dry, they will put us into administration.

It is funny that Barclays bank, who hold the bank account for the Venkys London holding company, are the only ones who can save us now!

The other option is to play Nzonzi at centre back, a far more likely option IMO. Not even Kean is inept enough to play the horrifically inept agents son in a first team game is he?
