GREEK international midfielder Georgios Fotakis is waiting to hear whether his performance in PAOK Salonika’s Europa League win at Tottenham will be enough to persuade Blackburn Rovers to follow up their initial interest in him.

The player’s agent has revealed that he was informed by Rovers that they were planning to watch the 30-year-old at White Hart Lane on Wednesday, with a view to a possible January move.

Rovers host Swansea in a crucial Premier League fixture tomorrow but Steve Kean has also had to start making plans for the transfer window, which is now less than a month away.

The Rovers boss, who held a firm interest in Fotakis’ PAOK team-mate Vieirinha in the summer, met with Venky’s this week to discuss transfer plans and has drawn up a list of targets.

Many Greek clubs have found life difficult because of the country’s economic crisis and it is thought that Fotakis, who was part of the Larissa side that knocked Rovers out of the UEFA Cup in 2007, is likely to be available in January.

His value has been tentatively suggested to be in the region of £1m.

“Of course Georgios would be interested,” his agent Christos Gatsis said about the possibility of Fotakis moving to Blackburn.

“He is happy at PAOK but it is his dream to play in the Premier League.

“We haven’t heard from Blackburn yet since last week, but they told me they were going to watch him in the game at Tottenham.

“I hope they will get in contact.”

Fotakis is expected to be part of the Greece squad for Euro 2012 after coming off the bench to score his second goal for his country, in eight appearances, when they secured their qualification in a pivotal comeback victory in Georgia in October.

Also linked with QPR, he impressed as PAOK raced into a two-goal lead over Tottenham in midweek, although they then had to hang on to a 2-1 win after being reduced to 10 men after only 39 minutes.

“It was a very good result, although after 40 minutes PAOK played with 10 players so they did not see Georgios at his full potential,” Gatsis added.

“He is a number eight who can also play as an attacking midfielder or a number 10.

“He runs a lot and he is very good at stealing the ball, he has a good right foot and scores a lot from distance.

“I think he would do well in the UK. It is the right time, he is at the right age.

“I think it is PAOK’s intention to sell, but it is up to the two clubs to talk.”
