SIMON Vukcevic is expected to undergo a medical at Blackburn Rovers today as the club work furiously behind the scenes to bolster their squad before the end of the transfer window.

The Montenegrin international is being allowed to leave Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon for in the region of £2million and is understood to be close to sealing a deal with Rovers if he completes a successful medical.

The attacking midfielder, who can also play on either flank or in attack, was a January target for Rovers boss Steve Kean and, after falling out of favour with Lisbon, is now ready to move to the Premier League.

The 25-year-old has impressed during his four seasons at Lisbon, having signed from Russian outfit Saturn Moscow Oblast for four million euros having fallen out with the coaching staff.

Vukcevic, has had disciplinary problems throughout his career, but he has been a key performer in Montenegro’s rise to second spot in the Euro 2012 qualifying group, just behind England.

Having failed in their bid to land PAOK’s winger Vierinha just a couple of weeks ago, Venky’s have moved their attentions to Vukcevic and are understood to be close to landing him.
