Big Sam delighted as Blackburn Rovers grab a point

Sam Allardyce praised his sides second half performance, as well giving rave reviews about centre back Phil Jones.

"He's like a young John Terry, he had a terrific debut" said the Rovers boss.

"His performance inparticular summed it up today, it was great performance considering he is only 17.

"He is a young lad from Chorley so it's a great credit to the staff."

However he didn't ignore the rest of squad, and praised his sides second half efforts after being over shadowed in the first.

"I think we deserved it in the end, our second half inparticular was impressive.

"We have been disapointed at Liverpool and Tottenham but today we managed to get the result."

Despite a big derby day looming, Allardyce insists he is only focussing on the next game.

"We have to perform like we did in the second half, and we'll get a result.

"We have to keep our record up. We are very proud of it and we have to get a result and they we can think about Burnley."

I agree for the next two games I would like to see us be more attacking and entertain but to be fair against a Big 4 team you have to adopt those tactics nowadays?
.
A young John Terry - Big Sam is not putting pressure on the lad then!
.
And Big Sam - you had better be thinking about Burnley even if you don't want to admit it! You don't want to be the Rovers manager who lost to such a poor team for the first time in 31 years do you?

Phil Jones MOM definitely, but I think was closely followed by Salgado, who had a pretty good game!
.
Please Big Sam why did you have to take off Niko and bring on Jason, can't we have them both up front? I personally would love to see them both play off each other!
.
Well done to Diouf, he isn't one of my favourite players but he put his head where it mattered for the goal!

"We have been dissapointed at Liverpool..."

Dissapointed?

I wouldn't expect a spelling error such as that from a ten-year-old!

Great point today by Blackburn but if they want that European place they have to be more attacking in formation.
Young Jones had a great game and i would take my time teething him in the Premiership but Rovers only losing 2 home games all season is down to Sam's negative tactics, if you play defensive you dont lose many games but single points will not get Rovers up that table.
2 up front at home and defensive formation away.
Great Result none the less.
Well done.

Surprise from Allardyce picking Jones but it paid off....

The lad from Chorley held his own against two of the best centre forwards on the planet. Brilliant.

Agreed, let's not get carried away but today was very encouraging, not just for Rovers and Jones, but for the youth system which is showing some signs of real promise.

Rovers proved that they have the balls to compete with the best today, even Diouf got stuck in. Just a shame that the same thing keeps cropping up. Lack of anything up front.

Inbreds away... Di Santo was the hero last time. Come on Sam, Burnley FC are **** ****. Lets have Franco and Kalinic partnering this time, and give Jones and Dunny starts (if Dunny's fit)... History proves that homegrown Blackburn lads give the dingles a good trouncing.

We'll stick it to 'em

God Bless Blackburn Rovers.

i'd like to know your views on this. reid, grella, dunn, etc. is it worth building a team around crocks?
.
if players are always injured what's the point? get shut and then we don't need to play players out of position. am i being stupid?

I understand where you're coming from but we aren't ony picking up single points. Before today, we've won our last 4 home games 2-0, 2-1, 1-0 and 3-0, admittedly not against the best teams in the league, but they all count

obviously we need to bring in a couple of strong players first. and don't get me wrong - i love dunny, but if he can't play midfield and let us play 2 up front we are always accomodating him which leaves the team weaker.

and personally, grella can't pass wind and reid is very average when fit

Dunny? He's on borrowed time and expensive. Let's get realistic and not sentimental.

we need a Batty type player or even a McKinley or Carsley to take charge, put a foot in and break up play which would accomodate a creative midfielder and two strikers.

i know (but not carlsey! - he was dire). we need 2 good midfielders and to offload the crocks. it's no good waiting for them to 'get fit' time after time. it's just tough luck!
.
with a strong midfield we can play 2 up top but at the moment we are too weak. i mean, pederson, andrews and n'zonzi (who i think is going to be a very good player) isn't good enough. was pleased with diouf today but brett seems to have lost his way

Very true but the margins of victory are usually pretty close for example a 2-1 or a 1-0 (apart from the Wanderers match).
when Sam has played a more attacking style he's had no complaints and Blackburn usually attack pretty well.
Its the fear of him losing this status of fortress Ewood thats holding him back.
S**t or bust i say and lets get some attacking done at home, we wont go down, we probably wont make Europe so lets get Ewood booming and score some goals and attack attack attack!!

Why do we not "attack attack attack" against chelsea? who the f**k are they?
+
Lost 3 games at home in over a year... and that's all because of "negative play"
+
"Booooooo","What you taking Kally off for","442-442!"
+
These are all statements I have heard one way or another at some point today, being on here, or at the game. I am so tired of it. 451, or 4411 or 23412412535****. Why do I have to suffer fools who drive fork lift trucks around, listen to talksport and read the F**kin Sun.. Who's obvious "tactical nouse" outwits a seasoned PROFESSIONAL management team. It make's no sense to me. Read Lamp it's(finally some sense coming out of someone) post regarding why we play 5 in midfield.. as it's FACT

On the positive side, how good is it to see our young players having such a good influence on the game. Olssen again performed well, Kally struggled against the one of the best Premier league defences, but had some nice touches. N'Zonzi played some good passes and need the protection from Andrews and what can I say about big Phil. He has just saved us £10,000,000........

Totally agree Rooney and Torres were both upfront on thier own today
if its good enough for those, why do people insist on 442 for rovers. we can realy match lampard and malluda man for man, cant we.

Tend to think it makes a difference if your 1 up front is Wayne Rooney.
.
And as for Torres playing one up front - it's hardly working a dream for the Scousers is it? How many people do you hear say that he needs some sort of partner?
.
I have said before that I dont give a monkeys about formations as long as it works. Could play 4-6-0 as far as i am concerned as long as we get people in the box and SUPPORT them.
.
As for who played well and who played dire it is interesting that there are players that some think were MoM and others think the same player played like a drain
.
For what its worth, my twopennyworth... I thought that Andrews was great yesterday in a crowded midfield, Diouf was OK at holding the ball and took his goal well.
.
Salgado poor 1st half but much better 2nd half when Anelka lost interest. Samba and Jones tremendous apart from ball watching for Drogba's goal.
.
N'Zonzi had one of his weaker games - remember who he was up against, his age and how many games he has played. I supsect he would be given some time off, if some other midfielders didn't pick up injuries taking their trackies off.
.
Kalanic was ploughing a lone furrow and looked less effective than in previous weeks. But like N'Zonzi remember who he was up against (like when we played at Old Trafford).
.
Nobody has commented on Pedersen who has continued his renaissance since New Year (back in his normal position).
.
Finally, competent by Brown who blocked a good shot in the 1st half and a v.good save in last 10 minutes. But the interesting thing is apart from that Chelsea hardly tested him as they were restricted to long range shots that went wide, or over.
.
Personally don't give a monkeys who wins the Prem (if we are not involved) but on yesterday's performance - Chelsea do not have the look of Champions.
.
Finally Jones as others have said was a revelation - how good was it to see the lad playing in black boots too (i am a traditionalist). I guess it is only a matter of time before he goes yellow with black polka dots.

If you notice the nature of my post you will sense a little sarcasm in it.
In my opinion i would like to see Rovers throw caution to the wind and in some games play a little bit more of an attacking formation.
If EHD had not have scored we would have lost simple as, and it was the weakened Chelsea side we could have faced both mentally and physically.
Dont get me wrong im greatful of a point and thought second half we played some decent stuff but this smash and grab tactic Sam plays can always come back to haunt you.
This is the poorest Premiership in a long time and we've got a much better squad than teams below but there is 8 points between us and 17th placed West Ham and we've got some massive games in Man Utd and Liverpool.
I remember Newcastle thinking they were safe and then getting sucked back in it with 4 games to go.
As for young Jones saving us £10m ha ha ha he's a great young kid who played with no fear yesterday but its only 1 game lets congratulate him and not get carried away.
Your positives were contradicted by negatives ie (Kally struggled, NZonzi played good passes but needed protection??)

PS respect the views, banter and contribution of people who post on this forum because without them you'd be talking to yourself, and its not just talk sport listeners and fork lift truck drivers who come on this forum.

Spot-on lamp-it! Great point yesterdaym could easily have been a win.

But our midfield has been the problem all season. They have not been supporting the strikers, they fail to track-back well and support the defence, they hardly ever link-up play and have not added too many goals.

I love Dunny and think that Reid and Grella are both very decent players (but all have to be fit consistantly).

A premiership team operating on limited budgets, just cant afford to have three of their main midfielders out so much because of injuries and fitness.

Nzonzi and Olsson have been brilliant whilst still only young lads learning the game.
Emerton seems to have lost his form just at the minute. Whilst Diouf continues to confuse me, he looked a very good player again yesterday! Andrews does just OK and Pederson is more effective in the middle than out wide.

I think Basturk will be given a chance in the next game or two, especially if Dunny is out again. He could be a decent player for us.

But we really need to have at least one or maybe two new midfielders in during the close season after we lose one or two of the crocks.

But well done Rovers, a very solid performance against a top top team who everyone said would maul us yesterday to get the midweek European defeat out of their system.

Bring on the Scumley!

Great performance yesterday, I cant think of any blackburn player that had a bad game, thought Salgado might struggle for pace after seeing the spurs game but he was excellent and the cross the the goal was superb, Phil Jones future superstar and probably saved us +5million on a new defender, Peeeedo's back looking like a new man looked like David Batty with all the tackles flying in and little digs while Drogba was on the floor crying, thought Olsson was slow getting back but the speed he flys down the wing he must be fooked by the time he gets to the touchline, Diouf look full of energy zipping round all over the pitch, Kalinic had a quiet game but you'd wouldnt expect him to see much of the ball against chelsea. Only downside of the game was when everyone was singing "Shoes off if you hate burnley" i stood on my leftover pie and got chicken balti stuck in my sock.

HAREWOOD BLUE :Your the first to mention that Olsson was slow getting back, your right but it was the lack of effort he put into it.flying down the wing is great but if you lose the ball you get back quick, full backs should defend that's their job and aything else is a bonus, not the other way round.

An odd game for me yesterday. I thought we were really poor for the first 30 mins. We stood off Chelsea and after the first goal I thought a drumming was on the cards.
The catalyst for the recovery was not half time, as SA would have us believe, but Dunn and Jones getting stuck in and pressing the chelsea team into errors. That lifted the crowd and the team.
After that it was a pretty even game and I thought with more ambition we could even have won the game. Chelsea looked tired and lacking in confidence and I think they would have buckled under significant pressure - but our style of play doesn't produce sustained pressure as we always have 9 men behind the ball!
SA is a lucky so and so - we defended well but created next to nothing and still got a draw and if we had lost 1-0 or worse his substitutions would have really got him some stick - but fair do's it worked and they say its better to be lucky than good!
Aye.
