Burnley defender gutted to miss family reunion

INJURED Clarets captain Steven Caldwell misses out on a ‘family affair’ at Wigan this weekend, but insists his season isn’t over.

The centre half has played only 10 games so far after suffering a recurrence of the groin injury he initially sustained on his international recall just days before the campaign began.

But the Scotland defender is desperate to add to that tally during a crucial run-in.

However, he is disappointed the chance to go head-to-head with his younger brother Gary, who signed for Wigan in January, for the first time in their careers will pass him by.

“We’ve been team-mates at Newcastle and we’ve been fortunate enough to play for Scotland, but I’ve never been against him,” said the 29-year-old.

“We speak with each other every day about opponents and teams so it will be strange to calm down the chat this week because we don’t want to give each other and inside information.

“The need to win a game takes over. We both need it and it’s who wants it more on the day.

“If I get asked to play any part in the game then I would love to, but it would probably come too quickly.

“I feel better than I’ve felt in a long time but I have to be a little bit tentative still.”
