Burnley FC blog: Laws will never go Megson way

AFTER the boos of Saturday, the debate raged among some Burnley fans. Will Brian Laws become their Gary Megson? But the truth is he never will.

Laws, like Megson at Bolton (right), knew from the start that supporters were unconvinced about his appointment, having been recently discarded by Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

At the Reebok Stadium, that rocky start eventually developed into a two-year mutual loathing between Megson and the supporters.

But Laws will not allow that to happen.

The first real worrying signs occurred on Saturday, when some supporters loudly voiced their disapproval of the substitution of Chris Eagles during the home loss to Wolves.

Yet Laws, on initial evidence at least, has the common sense to handle the situation.

Results have not gone his way so far, but he appears to have many admirable qualities.

For starters, he is a gentleman, who has admitted to being ‘disappointed’ by Saturday’s booing but who knows not to exacerbate the situation.

Laws has great affection for Burnley, having started his career as a popular full back at Turf Moor, and that may buy him more time with some than Megson was afforded at Bolton.

Laws has often spoken of his immense respect for the Clarets supporters, and outlined their importance to the survival effort.

In contrast, Megson was unable to forget his less than warm welcome, nor contain his resentment about the way he felt he was being treated.

Laws will not do that. He is a decent man who desperately wants to do well, not just for the club but for the fans as well.

Keep Burnley up, and he will feel like he’s walking on water.

Laws is better than people think and deserves a proper chance.

The real culprits are Kilby and Flood. If we go down its time we stopped being docile and gave it em with both barrels. By that I mean :

SACK THE BOARD- repeated to that will known tune!
Ossy Claret

Hey Bertie. You lot have more gods than the Romans and the Greeks put together. Sadly the next one you'll see is Pluto or Hades as you enter the underworld of the Championship.
