BLACKBURN Rovers manager Sam Allardyce had a few choice words for referee Howard Webb after his side's defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.

The official, who will be England’s representative at the World Cup, missed blatant penalties for both David Dunn and Gareth Bale – before bizarrely ruling out Nikola Kalinic’s wonder strike near the end.

Allardyce said: “At major parts in the game, particularly when the game is 0-0 we have had two penalties appeals turned down that we think are definite penalties.

“That has taken the game, that could have gone in our favour against us, and we are very disappointed with that as well.

"The tackle on Dunny I just don’t know why it was not a penalty.

"I can guess, because we are away from home and at Tottenham.

“Niko’s goal probably wouldn’t have affected the result but you don’t want to see goals like that wiped out for infringements that are not there.

"A referee of Howard’s experience should not be giving that but he did.”

Rovers’ boss also had words of praise for man of the match Gareth Bale but insisted it wasn’t the problems he caused Michel Salgado that were their downfall.

He said: “Bale is a terrific player and he had a terrific game.

"We should have stopped his service and in the main that was coming from Dawson on the diagonal.

"That is where we should have halted the situation more.”
