Chorley look to hit goal trail against Rossendale United

Chorley are looking to end a run of four games without a win when former Magpie favourite John Hughes brings his Rossendale United team to Victory Park on Saturday for a UniBond First Division North clash.

They moved up one place to 12th in the table and manager Waywell stressed that if they didn’t finish in the top eight he would be disappointed.

“We are capable of beating any side in the division,” he added.

Waywell said: “We had two two-hour training sessions and they responded to my criticisms. The lads worked really hard.

“We can match any team in the division in areas except finishing at the moment. We need to be scoring goals.

Hughes, a playing colleague of Waywell’s at Chorley and Rossendale, guided the Stags to a valuable 3-1 win over high-flying Curzon Ashton at the weekend.

The Stags still have a grim away record, having won only once and lost 13.
