What a victory! We went behind twice to our Lancashire rivals Morecambe on Saturday but as is often said ‘form is temporary and class is permanent.’
Once again the Shrimps left the Crown Ground empty handed but it could have all been so very different.
Morecambe started the game on fire and for the first 20 minutes they played some good football.
Indeed if the Shrimps had continued to play football instead of reverting to the strong arm tactics in the second half they might have had half a chance of winning.
As it was the Stanley never say die spirit was once again in evidence at the Crown and with Jimmy Ryan’s superb 83rd-minute goal the double over Morecambe was secured.
How good do those three words sound to every Stanley fan – ‘Double over Morecambe’?
Off the pitch this week there was more great news, all the historical debt has been paid off (thank you Ilyas) and the new £1million ground development plans are gathering pace.
Stanley have moved up to eighth in the table and with games in hand on those above the play-offs are looking more and more realistic.
Tonight will be a very stern test of those play-off credentials as we travel to Northampton. But as Stanley have won seven of our last eight matches we know all about form and class.
