Well, we’ve certainly had better weeks as Rovers fans.
One of our worst performances since Sam Allardyce arrived as manager coincided with a win for Burnley.
However the bare statistic of two adverse results pales into insignificance when measured against the tragic loss of one of our supporters at a football match.
The Britannia Stadium has never been a happy hunting ground for Rovers results-wise but it’s always going to carry a deeper, sadder significance for us from now.
On the footballing side, the last time we lost 3-0 to a mediocre side (and that’s probably doing too much justice to Stoke) was at Wigan last season, which proved to be our last manager’s Waterloo.
We lie in a much better position at present so there’s no prospect of a similar reaction from the board.
However, too many other non-performances like last Saturday’s and we will find ourselves back in the relegation mire, and the mood of the fans could turn nasty.
Tomorrow we once again face a vitally important home game against an in-form Hull side, who look refreshed and are playing some of their best football since the beginning of last season when they were surprising the big boys.
What looked a home banker a couple of weeks ago now looks anything but. I just hope they have the same travelling phobia as we have and which we appear to share with our friends in claret and blue.
We’ve been a different side at Ewood and it’s to be hoped that will continue.
The Jekyll and Hyde nature of our home and away form means that every forward step is followed by two steps backwards, or that’s how it seems anyway.
Another run of two home wins would change the mood again and we could really start to believe that the team is progressing as we have dared to hope in recent weeks, up to Saturday’s debacle.
