Burnley reaping rewards of scouting network

BURNLEY are reaping the benefits of their scouting system, according to manager Owen Coyle, following the capture of young Irish prospect Kevin Long.

The arrival of the 19-year-old Cork City defender follows hot on the heels of Republic of Ireland Under 17s centre half Neil Yadolahi's recruitment to the Clarets' first-year scholars’ ranks.

The Premier League newcomers pipped clubs including Celtic, Preston, Leeds and Charlton to the signature of Long, who, although unable to play until the January transfer window opens, has agreed a three-and-a-half deal.

And Coyle, who also recruited Joe McKee from Scottish club Livingston on a youth apprenticeship earlier in the season, has praised the efforts of the club’s talent spotting network.

“We’ve got terrific links in Scotland and Ireland, and I believe there’s terrific players, as there are in England,” he said.

“What we do offer here is a chance for young players to come in, improve, and if they’re good enough, they’ll get the platform to play.

“That’s a big thing for us, and hopefully if there’s young players out there, of the quality we believe can enhance the club, we’ll do our utmost to bring them here.”

Am I going a bit odd..but are there no young lads around Lancashire, or even around England that could have been "spotted", thus enabling a youngster to get the experience of premiership football and hopefully make the England team someday. All we seem to hear of these days is another big signing from somewhere around the world. By the end of the season Burnley FC could apply for a name change..from Burnley Clarets to Burnley Celtics or even Celtic Clarets with the number of Scottish / Irish now on their books.

Also, until any of these players has had a sniff of First team action then I would hardly say we are 'reaping the rewards'

Fantastic work which deserves credit, rather than misery-guts whining like the two above.

Bet you were moaning about Owen's appointment.

Time to pull together with the efforts of everyone at this fantastic club.
