BLACKBURN Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has distanced himself from a move for Paris St Germain midfielder Jerome Rothen.

Reports from France have indicated left midfielder Rothen was due at Ewood Park early this week for talks about a potential switch.

But Allardyce has all but ruled out a move for the 31-year-old – although admits he could still do with some squad strengthening.

He said: “Jerome Rothen is of an interest to us but he is a left sider and I don’t feel as though we need strengthening in the wide positions.

“Left and right we are pretty strong. Brett is on his way back, we have Dioufy, Elrio, Morten, young Junior who looks bright.

“From that point of view I don’t think that is priority.”

Meanwhile, Rovers are not in the market for Benfica’s attacking midfielder Hassan Yebda, contrary to claims in a national newspaper yesterday.
