Rovers have offers on the table for their transfer targets and are ‘edging closer’ to deals.

Boss Tony Mowbray revealed the wheels are turning behind the scenes as they look to make their second addition of the summer.

Joe Rothwell became the club’s first signing when he made the switch from Oxford United last week.

Business has been slower than usual in the Championship this summer, but with Rovers only looking for five more additions and with 25 players already under contract, the boss is relaxed.

“There’s money to spend, we are trying to get deals done, we are talking to clubs, we have made some offers and let’s wait and see,” Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph in Austria. “I’ve been on the phone pretty regularly while I’ve been out here.

“Head of recruitment Stuart Harvey is working really hard behind the scenes and we’re talking to a few clubs.

“It is dragging on. In an ideal world you have your full squad before you go away and everyone gels together but we have to be patient.

“I’m not overly concerned about new additions at the moment because I see the wheels turning behind the scenes and we’re edging closer to buying players.”

The Ewood chief is expecting business to pick up ahead of their first pre-season game at Hibs in 10 days.

Rovers have money to spend on permanent additions this season following positive talks with owners Venky’s in May.

The club spent just £250,000 in bringing in Derrick Williams during the relegation campaign of 2016/17.

Yesterday marked a year since Rovers spent £750,000 to sign Bradley Dack on a four-year deal from Gillingham.

That was something of a statement of intent as they set about winning promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.

Dack’s signing was the standout addition of last summer’s recruitment which saw around £1.3million spent on transfers.

On the possibility of a similar summer this time around, Mowbray added: “I think we can do that again this year, it’s just about finding the right ones for the right price.

“That balance is of how many loan players do we bring in from Premier League clubs and how many players are we going to sign?

“Ideally we sign our own players, as many as we can, and try and build and grow the football club.

“We have made some offers and enquiries, some of those have come back with ridiculous amounts of money for players.

“Sometimes you have to move on and change your targets and go on to the next one. Let’s wait and see.”
