THE scale of Burnley's achievement in qualifying for Europe next season was summed up for Sam Vokes when the Clarets faithful broke into tune on the final day of the season.

'We're just a small town in Europe' rang out as Turf Moor celebrated a remarkable season and Vokes believes it encapsulates what a stunning achievement it has been for Burnley to qualify for continental competition for the first time in 51 years.

"It's massive and it was nice to hear the supporters singing that 'we're just a small town in Europe'. It's true, we're only a small club so to be in a European competition next season is amazing," the striker said.

Vokes is heading away with Wales now as he looks to add to his 58 caps in a friendly with Mexico next week, but his next competitive action is likely to be in Europe with Burnley.

The Clarets will enter the Europa League at the second qualifying round stage, with the fixtures taking place on July 26 and August 2. Vokes and co will find out who they will be facing when the draw takes place on June 19 and the 28-year-old will be keeping an eye on proceedings.

"It's incredible. We'll come back in to pre-season in July, prepare for that and look forward to it. It's a game to look forward to," Vokes said.

"We'll be keeping an eye on the draw and when we report back for pre-season we'll be looking at the opposition to see what they're offering.

"You never know who we're going to get; we could end up anywhere. That's what Europe is all about so it's something we'll be looking forward to. It's a big challenge for us."

Burnley were in the top seven for 27 of the final 28 weeks of the season and after a run of five successive wins between March 3 and April 14 they threatened to mount a challenge for Arsenal's sixth place.

Although those hopes were ended when the Clarets failed to win any of their final five games of the campaign, their seventh place finish had them as 'best of the rest' outside of the big spending, big earning top six.

Burnley were 14 points and nine places better off than last season, when they stayed up in 16th with 40 points.

Boss Sean Dyche had set his sights on bettering that total through the campaign and in the end the Clarets cruised past last season's efforts.

"Everyone talks about the top six and it's obviously tough to break in to but we've finished as the 'best of the rest' and that's a massive achievement for us," Vokes said.

"To build on staying up last season by reaching Europe is amazing."
