JOHANN Berg Gudmundsson could be set for a hectic summer if the Clarets secure European football - not that he's complaining.

The Iceland winger looks a certainty to be part of their squad for the country's first ever World Cup campaign in Russia, joining up with Heimir Hallgrímsson's side not long after Burnley's season ends on May 13.

And if the Clarets finish in the top seven to guarantee themselves a Europa League spot - something that could be secured as early as this weekend - then his club season could be restarting in the second qualifying round on July 26, just 11 days after the World Cup final.

Gudmundsson will be granted a late return to pre-season by the Clarets, although the 27-year-old insists it's a summer he is going to relish.

"I'm not going to complain because I'm playing in the World Cup and the Europa League with Burnley," he said.

"I'm not that old, I think I can handle it!"

Football is certainly treating Gudmundsson well at the moment, and he added: "It's going really well. It just shows that I'm part of two really good teams in Burnley and the Icelandic national squad.

"It's going really well and I just want to keep going."

The Iceland ace is one of the few players in this Burnley squad to have experienced European football previously.

He made 26 Europa League appearances in four years at AZ Alkmaar in Holland, scoring four times, and although he admits the hectic schedule can be tough, he also insists it's a great experience.

"It's nice, even though it's tough to play on Thursday-Sunday," the former Charlton man said.

"It's a great experience going to different countries and playing against different teams. We need to finish these three games and see what happens."

It could be a summer that sees Gudmundsson competing at the very top of the international and domestic football ladder - nearly.

"The Champions League is the best one domestically, the Europa League is a bit below it but that could be our next target!," he joked.

"There are some big teams though and it's a great competition. Hopefully we can make the most of it."
