Richie Smallwood says Rovers want to leave nothing to chance and complete the promotion job at Doncaster tonight.

Rovers travel to the Keepmoat Stadium knowing a victory would clinch a place in the Championship, no matter how Shrewsbury Town fare at home to Peterborough United.

Tony Mowbray’s side can also go up if they match the Shrews’ result but Smallwood wants Rovers to secure promotion in style.

An extra 700 tickets were snapped up by Rovers fans yesterday, meaning around 3,700 supporters will travel to South Yorkshire.

And Smallwood said: “We want to do it our way with another way in front of another great following.

“We want to give them something to cheer about and send them back down the M62 happy.

“We’re confident with our away form and the run that we’re on.

“I’m looking forward to the game, a lot of the lads are, we’re confident in our ability and we can find the intensity to win games like we have done for most of the season then I think we’ll get the job done.”

Rovers have had to deal with the pressure of being promotion favourites since relegation from the Championship last May.

It is a tag they have embraced, despite a disappointing start to the campaign which saw them lose four of their first 11 matches.

Smallwood added: “We were tipped to do well and have backed that up.

“We’re very close to getting the job done and we’re looking forward to that day.

“To start the season in not good fashion, being in mid-table and so many points behind, it’s a real testament to how hard the lads have worked and dug in during the middle part of the season and we have kicked on from there.”

Smallwood has played every league game in the middle of the Rovers midfield since his summer move from Rotherham United.

He won promotion from League One via the play-offs with the Millers in 2013/14, but it’s an automatic spot he’s hunting with Rovers this time around.

Having become a fans’ favourite in his debut season at Ewood Park, he admits his debut season in East Lancashire couldn’t have gone much better.

He added: “The only thing that can make it better is getting the job done.

“I’m fairly confident in the lads, I know it’s not over and there’s work to be done, but I’m confident there’s enough in the changing room to get it done.”

Rovers head to Doncaster aiming to avenge the defeat they suffered in their opening home game of the season which made it back-to-back losses to start the campaign.

It was an afternoon to forget, but one Rovers have bounced back from, having lost just three league games since.

The 27-year-old said: “The atmosphere was big and I obviously wanted to get off to a good start on my home debut.

“Southend didn’t go to plan by any stretch but the start to that second half typified our start to the season.

“Thankfully we put it quickly behind us, moved on to winning ways and kicked on from there.

“We have a lot of lads that had been used to playing at a higher level and hadn’t played in League One and didn’t know what it took at this level to get out of this league.

“I was one of the fortunate ones that I knew how hard it is, what it takes, and luckily as a group we realised what it takes and found a formula to get us back to winning ways.”
