Tony Mowbray wants Rovers to stay in control of their destiny as they bid to win immediate promotion from League One at Doncaster Rovers.

A win for Rovers at the Keepmoat Stadium would ensure they are playing Championship football next season, no matter what happens when Shrewsbury Town host Peterborough United.

Rovers need two points from their final three games to guarantee promotion due to their significantly better goal difference, sitting seven points clear of the Shrews with three games to play.

But knowing a win tomorrow would see them achieve their aim with two games to spare, Mowbray is staying focussed.

He said: “That will be the focus to concentrate on us, knowing our destiny is in our own hands.

“We want to try and be as positive as we can and try and win the football match.

“We will see what the aftermath of the game is, win, lose or draw we would see what still needs to be done or not.

“We would still have two more opportunities but that’s not what we’re thinking about it.

“As with the games this season we’re thinking about going on the road and trying to win the game.”

Rovers have lost just five matches this season, and just once since October 14. One of those five defeats came in the reverse fixture in August when Doncaster left Ewood Park 3-1 victors.

Mowbray says going through the season without any team doing the double over them adds an extra incentive, but none bigger than achieving promotion at the first attempt.

“We have lost five games all season. I would hope that we’re not going to lose the last three, statistically it would suggest that’s not going to happen,” he added.

“Strange things can happen in football but I will prepare our team as we always do, we send them in to the next challenge and I take great confidence from the resilience and the spirit of the team that’s been shown over a long period of time that we can get the results we require.”

Rovers are set to be backed by yet another travelling support in excess of 3,000. Mowbray says that won’t come in to his pre-match thinking, but hopes the Rovers fans in South Yorkshire, and back in East Lancashire, are given something to celebrate.

He added: “We don’t sit around and talk about things like that, in the team meetings and the preparation.

“In the dressing room before the game I am sure they will feel it in their belly that they are standing on the brink of getting three points that would get us over the line.

“You want to play in the big games with big expectation and in front of a fanbase.

“It’s amazing that the fans want to come along and help the team get the three points that we require.”
