David Raya has backed Rovers to deal with the pressure associated with the promotion race having shouldered it for much of the season.

Rovers were favourites to make an immediate return to the Championship, something which boss Tony Mowbray has wanted his side to embrace throughout the campaign.

Things didn’t look promising after four defeats in their opening 11 matches left Rovers languishing in mid-table, 12 points off top spot.

But the Spaniard feels Rovers have bounced back well, with one defeat in their next 31 games, and said there is a focus in the dressing room to see the job through.

“We always have pressure throughout the year,” said Raya.

“Our aim since the start of the season was to get promoted.

“We didn’t start well and we had a lot of pressure then, as always we have to live with it.

“It’s our job to get the job done, we have to deal with the pressure on us.

“Since we came in for pre-season our aim was to get promoted straight away, so we always put pressure on ourselves to do well.

“I think that’s paid off.”

Rovers haven’t been at their best in their last three outings but have managed to remain unbeaten and collect five points along the way.

And ahead of the home game with Peterborough United live on Sky Sports, the 22-year-old goalkeeper said it’s points, and not performances, that are of most concern.

He added: “Right now it’s about getting the three points no matter how you play.

“You always want to play well, to give the fans what they want, so the first thing is to get the three points and the second thing is if we can play how we did last time (we played Peterborough when Rovers won 3-2) then we would be delighted.

“It was a really good game that we played, our goals were really good on the counter-attack.

“The main thing is to get three points but if we play like that then we won’t be complaining.”

Rovers’ fate is in their own hands as they head into their final four games with a five point advantage over Shrewsbury in third.

Raya added: “We have to focus on ourselves, win our games, and then we’ll be in the Championship next year.

“You always have a look, you want to know what the other results were. It went our way a little bit (on Tuesday) but we have to do our bit and get the three points on Thursday.”
