JAMES Tarkowski is confident the Clarets can maintain their place in the upper echelons of the Premier League for the rest of this season and beyond under the guidance of boss Sean Dyche.

Burnley are sitting seventh in the top flight ahead of this weekend’s trip to Watford, a position that could bring European football to Turf Moor next term.

But whatever position the Clarets end up, Tarkowski – who made his England debut during the international break last month – wants to use struggling West Brom, who Burnley beat 2-1 at The Hawthorns last weekend, as an example not to rest on their laurels.

The 25-year-old said: “You need to keep putting the work in, which our manages makes sure we do.

“There’s no foot off the gas here and I don’t think there will be with this manager.”

The victory in the West Midlands was a third straight success for Burnley which came on the back of a lengthy winless run.

And Tarkowski is pleased with how the Clarets have responded.

“It’s been a good few weeks,” he said. “There’s been a lot of talk about the winless run, but we’ve won three on the bounce in three tough games and we’re chasing the teams above us. We’ll keep moving forward.

“We just keep doing what we’re doing. It’s got us to where we are now. We’re not going to start changing and thinking we’re part of the top six or anything like that.

“There’s a reason we are where we are, we’re doing things right and we’ll continue that.”

The centre back capped a memorable week with another three points for his club having made his Three Lions bow in the 1-1 draw with Italy at Wembley just days before.

He added: “It’s been a tough week, a lot of physical work, a lot of adrenaline on Tuesday. I got back, had a bit of rest and then straight into training to play.”

Of his rise to the international scene, he added: “It’s been a quick change of events, from being on the bench week in week out to playing and getting called up by England.

“It’s changed very quickly, but I’m enjoying it and embracing it and long may it continue.”
