ASHLEY Barnes hailed his acrobatic volley against West Brom the best goal of his career as he maintained his stunning form in front of goal.

Barnes was scoring for the fourth Premier League game in a row when he put the Clarets ahead against the Baggies with a flying over-the-shoulder volley that arrowed past Ben Foster.

The goal put Barnes in the record books for Burnley, becoming the first Claret to score in four successive top flight games in the same season since John Murray in 1968.

And the 28-year-old admitted he'd be watching his goal back a few times over the weekend.

“I think that’s the best one in my career," said Barnes.

“I went in for the first ball which I think Azza (Aaron Lennon) might have put in. He just checked back and lifted it up.

“Woody was just in front of me and as I checked back I just swung my leg at it and luckily enough it’s gone in.

“I’ll probably watch that a few times tonight, that’s for sure.

“It’s going really well for me at the moment. That’s down to hard work on the training ground and that’s repaying me and flowing into games.

“Hopefully I can do it again next weekend, if selected, and see how many I can keep going in a row.”

While Barnes stole the show Chris Wood was also on the scoresheet for the third game in a row as their strike partnership continued to flourish.

Wood took his tally for the season to nine in all competition, while Barnes was scoring for the eighth time this season, and he is keen to add to that total between now and the end of the campaign.

“The main thing is we get the three points and if we can help each other out and keep this goal-scoring going it’s going to be amazing come the end of the season,” he said.

“I set a target at the start of the season and I’m still way off that, but the main thing is to help the team and as long as we keep picking up points, who knows where we’ll be come the end of the season.

“We are growing every game. We’ve grown into game-management and we’re more experienced in the Premier League and that can only help.

“We are enjoying every game we are going out there. We’re not taking our foot off the gas and we want to see where we end up.”
