SEAN Dyche insists he's not concerned over the impasse in contract negotiations with Ben Mee.

It is understood talks over a new deal for the stand-in skipper have stalled in recent weeks and Mee will enter the final 12 months of his existing deal this summer.

That could yet present Dyche and Burnley with a decision to make, should no agreement be reached, with Mee able to leave on a free if he runs his current deal down at the end of the 2018/19 season.

But asked if he was concerned at the situation, Dyche said: "No, we’ve had it before.

"We deal with all the contracts, speak with all the players and their agents, we have open communication."

Burnley were presented with a similar scenario with Michael Keane and Andre Gray last summer, with both players sold for a combined fee of nearly £50million as they entered the final year of their contracts.

Mee signed a new three-year deal in July 2016 and he has been captain for most of this season following the injury to club captain Tom Heaton.

The 28-year-old initially joined Burnley on loan in the summer of 2011, before making the move permanent six months later. He has gone on to make 245 appearances for the club.

Asked if he was confident a new deal would be agreed, Dyche added: "I’m never more confident or less confident than any player I’ve dealt with here. It takes all parties to agree."
