Adam Armstrong’s impressive run of form has come as no surprise to Rovers boss Tony Mowbray.

The Newcastle United loanee netted four times in February which saw him win the League One player of the month prize.

He continued that scoring run into March, netting in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic.

Mowbray was keen to bring the 21-year-old to Ewood Park when he was recalled from his loan spell at Bolton Wanderers.

The pair previously worked together in 2015/16 when Armstrong enjoyed a fine season in front of goal.

And after winning the February prize, Mowbray said: “He hasn’t surprised me. I worked with him for a year at Coventry and he scored 20 goals.

“He scored goals, very similar types of goals to the one he scored against Wigan, straight balls and him diving across the line and finishing with aplomb with either foot.

“Adam is a great lad, works really hard and brings attributes to this team. When you have a Bradley Dack and Jack Payne who can carve teams open and slide balls in then you need some speed.

“We have Graham who is a fantastic foil but Adam at this moment is bringing that speed and power to the forward line.

“He’s hungry to score goals and let’s hope that continues in the final 10 games.”

Mowbray meanwhile missed out on the manager prize to Plymouth boss Derek Adams.
