BURNLEY’S high-flying squad don’t get the credit they deserve, according to Clarets new boy Aaron Lennon.

Despite not winning in 12, Sean Dyche’s side remain seventh in the Premier League and will look to return to winning ways against Lennon’s former club Everton today.

Burnley have been one of the surprise stories of the season and with 10 games to go remain in contention to qualify for European football next term.

Lennon joined from the Toffees in January and just over a month into his Clarets career he believes the secret to the success is the quality of players at Dyche’s disposal.

“I think people don’t realise how good this team is. That’s what it is,” the 30-year-old said.

“The gaffer has got the lads working together every single day. I think that’s why were are seventh.”

Lennon is one of several new faces at Burnley who boast plenty of Premier League experience, following the signings of Jack Cork, Jon Walters and Phil Bardsley in the summer.

But there are also players who have reached the top flight via spells in the Football League, such as Nick Pope, Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Chris Wood.

Asked if those stars are under-rated due to their background, Lennon said: “Probably so. A lot of people don’t realise how good these players are.

“I think maybe this year people are starting to take notice.”

And the former England winger admits the squad is better than even he thought.

“Even I didn’t realise they were this good,” he said of his new teammates. “You play against them but you don’t realise how good someone is until you play with them. They have got some fantastic football players here.”

Burnley trio Nick Pope, Ben Mee and James Tarkowski have been linked with an England call in recent weeks as they bid to follow Tom Heaton, Jack Cork and Michael Keane in earning Three Lions caps while at Turf Moor.

Lennon has won 21 caps for England and believes Pope, Mee and Tarkowski will all earn international honours.

“One hundred per cent, all three of them will all play for England, at one point, sooner rather than later,” the former Leeds and Tottenham man said.

“I think all three of them will knock on the door very soon. They have what it takes to go all the way.”

Lennon hasn’t spoken to any of his former Everton teammates ahead of this weekend’s clash, but did reveal he spoke to former Claret Keane, who swapped Turf Moor for Goodison Park this summer, about life at Burnley before he joined the Clarets.

“I did have a chat with Keano. He had nothing but positive things to say,” Lennon said.

“He told me what a great group it is and what a great club it is.”
