I THINK it’s fair to say that I’ve spent many hours since Saturday getting plenty of use out of my Bobby Madley voodoo doll!

I’m not one to jump aboard the ‘everything is going against us’ bus but after Saturday it does have me thinking they may have a point.

As soon as referee Madley got in the way of Ashley Westwood getting to a loose ball and Southampton pounced you just knew it was going to end with the Saints snatching a last-minute equaliser.

To all intents and purposes we pretty much had the three points in the bag against a Southampton side who might just be the worst team to visit the Turf this season.

I have a minor gripe that we weren’t positive enough after going 1-0 up thanks to a scrappy Ashley Barnes goal but other than that it was a decent performance and one which looked like securing our first win in what seems like an age.

We’re starting to get players back from injury and I think it’s clear that having the likes of Stephen Ward – who came in for the unlucky Charlie Taylor on Saturday – Chris Wood and, hopefully this weekend, James Tarkowski will give the fans a lift.

We can’t get away from the fact that a lot of creativity has been stripped out of the side by the absence of Robbie Brady and Steven Defour so we may not hit the same strides we hit in the first half of the season.

Everton are the visitors on Saturday lunchtime and I would love to see us be a bit more adventurous, especially given the Toffees defensive woes this season.

Michael Keane will make his first return to Turf Moor since leaving last summer and he may just wonder what might have been. He earned his move to Everton but it hasn’t quite worked out for him and if the rumours are to be believed, he could be on his way at the end of the season.

If I was Sean Dyche I’d certainly be having a sniff because there’s no doubt he’s a top quality centre half. I just don’t think he’s had the management required since his move.

Before that though we need to make sure we heap a little bit more misery on him. Well, there’s no love in football is there?
