BEN Mee has called on the goalscoring burden to be shared around the Burnley squad.

The Clarets have netted just 22 goals in 28 Premier League games so far this term, with half of them coming from strikers Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood and Sam Vokes.

Of the defenders only Stephen Ward has found the back of the net this season, at Stamford Bridge on the opening day, and Mee is keen to provide more of a threat from set-pieces himself as Burnley look to find their shooting boots for the run-in.

The Clarets have scored just six goals their last 11 league games, none of which have ended in victory, and stand-in skipper Mee said: “The performances are there, a few more goals from all over the pitch would be nice.

“We can’t just rely on the lads up top. We want to score a few more goals, including from set-pieces.

“I’m frustrated with myself a little bit. I want to get on the end of a few more set-pieces and impact there as well.”

The return of joint top-scorer Wood to the bench against Southampton last weekend could be a help in front of goal for the Clarets and he has further strengthened the competition for places within the squad.

Wood is one of a number of injured Clarets edging back into the first-team picture, with Ward back in the starting line-up against the Saints while Tom Heaton and James Tarkowski are also closing in on a return.

“It’s definitely a boost,” Mee said of those returning stars. “It’s always nice to have those spaces up for grabs and have players challenging for different spots.

“It gives all the lads a boost that are actually playing as well because they know that they have to play well to stay in the side. It’s healthy all round. All the lads coming back will want to get back in the team and it adds healthy competition which is always good.

“There is massive competition around now which makes it interesting. Hopefully that can spur us on to some good performances.”

Burnley will seek to end their wait for a win against Everton on Saturday when Mee will come up against his former central defensive partner Michael Keane, who moved to the Toffees for £30million in the summer.

“I’m looking forward to seeing him, definitely. I hope he enjoys coming back here, not too much though,” the 28-year-old said.

“We still speak to him every now and again. It’ll be good to see him, he’s a nice lad.”

It will be an afternoon of reunions with former Toffee Aaron Lennon set to face his former club and of the Clarets’ latest new recruit Mee said: “He’s settled in very well. He’s getting used to how we play and the environment that he’s come in to.

“He’s a great addition to our squad with the experience that he’s got.”
