BURNLEY might be labelled the 'surprise package' of the Premier League this season, but inside the dressing room there is no shock at where the Clarets find themselves with 13 games to go.

Sean Dyche's side remain in seventh in the table - despite a run of nine league games without a win - and in the hunt for European qualification next season.

Having finished 16th last season Burnley are now just four points short of matching the total they achieved last term and they are currently the 'best of the rest' behind the top six.

But striker Ashley Barnes insists none of that is coming as a surprise to the squad, who are continuing to take it one game at a time despite the finishing line honing into sight.

"We're going to take it one game at a time and see where we can end up. It’s no surprise to us because we believe in ourselves," the former Brighton man said of the Clarets campaign so far.

"At this moment in time we need to concentrate on getting back to winning ways."

Burnley might be on their longest winless run in the top flight since failing to win any of their first 10 league games in 2014/15, but the fact they remain in seventh shows what a fast start they had to the campaign.

And Barnes believes that takes any pressure off and he's confident a win is just around the corner.

Just look at the league position. We haven’t won but that will soon change," he said.

"You go through ups and downs in football, you’re going to have some games you won’t win. We’ve gone a few without a win but hopefully we can try and get something at the weekend."

With Burnley well clear of the relegation battle this season they could easily take their foot off the gas, but Barnes insists that won't be happening with this squad.

"I don’t think there’s one day where we'll come in and be relaxed or go into games relaxed," the 28-year-old said.

"We work at 100 per cent here and we will give it our all every day in the training field to put in performances at the weekend."

Barnes has four goals to his name this season and asked how his campaign was panning out he said: "It’s going ok. Everyone would love to go it a lot better, I’d love more goals on the board but first and foremost it’s the team performance.

"As long as keep picking up points that’s as good as a goal for me."
