KEVIN Long is aiming to keep make history with Burnley as he warned against letting the Clarets' season fade out over the final 13 games.

The point at Newcastle steered Burnley back up to seventh in the Premier League and the 27-year-old Irishman, back in the side in James Tarkowski's absence, wants to kick on and see how high up the table the Clarets can finish.

Long revealed players and staff had held a meeting last week where they had reasserted their aims for the remainder of the season.

“We had a meeting last week and we are all eager to kick on and stay as high as we can," he said.

“We don’t want the season to just fade out to nothing and we’re safe, if that’s the case. We want to kick on and see how high we can get and keep creating history of the club.”

The task is certainly a tough one against City today but former Cork City defender Long said this is the type of the day the club had strived for in getting out of the Championship,

“That’s what we’re in the Premier League for, to play against the best players in the world and playing against Man City at this moment in time they are, arguably one of the best teams in the world," he said.

“We will all look forward to it and hopefully we can be at our best and get something from the game.

“The most important thing are your concentration levels. We know they’ve got great players and can punish you at any moment in time.

“But I think if we are at our best and can contain them, the longer the game goes on we will have our chances as well and I’m sure we can hurt them.

“There are a few people going on about how long we’ve gone without a win now.

“But we’ve played a lot of the top teams. You’ve got to play them and that’s what we’re here for.

“We’ve had a lot of big performances in those games as well and could, arguably, have had a few results.

“Hopefully tomorrow, if we’re at our best, we can get a result."
