AIDEN O'Neill has seen his loan move to League One promotion candidates Scunthorpe United fall through.

The 19-year-old Clarets midfielder was recalled from Fleetwood Town at the start of January and has since been away with Australia at the AFC U23 Championship.

He was due to seal a move to the Iron towards the end of this month but it understood they have now turned their attention elsewhere.

The young Socceroos crashed out of the competition in China after defeats in the group stage to Vietnam and South Korea.

O'Neill is now heading back to Turf Moor but he could yet go out on loan again before the end of the month.

Meanwhile defender Harry Flowers has left Burnley to join National League side Guiseley on a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old spent 10 months at Turf Moor after joining from Midland League Premier Division side Brocton.

But Flowers, the grandson of former England World Cup winner and Wolves legend Ron, never graduated beyond the Under-23s and he has been allowed to seek regular football elsewhere.

Flowers’ departure to Guiseley follows Alex Whitmore’s permanent switch to Chesterfield, as the Clarets allow some of their young players to try and make a mark elsewhere and open up opportunities for others at Turf Moor.
