TONY Mowbray says Rovers' new arrivals have helped add an extra intensity to training ahead of the visit to Fleetwood Town.

Jack Payne and Adam Armstrong are new signings within the last week, increasing the competition for places in the squad.

And Mowbray admits the 15 game unbeaten run in the league, allied to last weekend's win over promotion rivals Shrewsbury, means confidence is high within the Rovers ranks.

“It’s reflected in the training this week, the intensity has been really, really high,” he said.

“Adam coming last week and Jack coming this week has created a new vibe on the training ground, everyone has wanted to impress and show the new guys what they’ve got. We’re just trying to improve the club as we go along.

“That develops from below. There are positives at Under-23s and Under-18s level, so there’s a lot of good young footballers at this club and it has a decent vibe around it.

“They’re enjoying their football and it helps when teams win. Let’s keep going, we haven’t achieved anything yet.”

Payne was recalled by Huddersfield Town from his loan spell with Oxford United before joining Rovers, while Armstrong arrived from Newcastle United.

Permanent deals were Mowbray's preference in the January window, but he wasn't ruling out the possibility of any of the club's loanees becoming full-time players in the future.

He added: “Ideally we would sign players on long contracts player that we trust and see the future with.

“We’ve had to go in to the loan market for young players and who knows what the future of those deals will be?

“They’re not necessarily as black and white as short-term loans and there might be a potential future in some of them.

“It’s about trying to build the club, trying to create competition and to create a winning philosophy in their minds.”

Rovers head to Highbury to face a Fleetwood side who have won three of their last four matches to move in to the top half. The two sides shared four goals in a 2-2 draw at Ewood in October, and Mowbray is anticipating another tough test.

“It’s a tough game for us, we understand that,” he said.

“They have some obvious threats and dangers that we have to be mindful of, especially on their own ground.

“They can score goals, create chances, and it’s a tough game but let’s go and see how we get on.

“On the day through the 90 minutes with your effort, your quality and your talent you have to make it easier than it might be before kick-off.

“It’s not little old Fleetwood and just turn up and win, they’re very well organised and honest team with some individual talent.

“Let’s go and test ourselves and see if we can get another three points but knowing that the only way we can do that is by trying to out-work, create chances and negate their chances and with a big following let’s see if we can make a good day for our fans.”
