BURNLEY’S first signing of the January transfer window might not be a familiar name to many but there are plenty of reasons to get excited about the arrival of French winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.

The winger has completed a loan move to the Clarets from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche had been in the market for a wide player following the long-term injury to Robbie Brady and 22-year-old N’Koudou fits the bill.

And the signing could prove to be a shrewd one.

The winger was highly-rated in his home country while impressing for Marseille in the 2015-16 campaign and was at one stage among the top prospects in Europe.

That attracted the attention of Spurs and the wideman, usually utilised on the right hand side, has plenty of potential which could bear fruit at Turf Moor.

He is highly thought of at Spurs and although he has not made a single Premier League start under Mauricio Pochettino this term, the Tottenham manager believes a move will offer the 22-year-old valuable first-team experience.

Spurs hope the ‘Burnley way’ will rub off on the youngster and that he will develop a defensive discipline and a high-intensity work ethic to combine with his attacking instinct and free-flowing style.

N’Koudou’s opportunities in North London have largely been restricted to domestic cups and appearances off the bench since he joined Spurs from Marseille for £11 million in August 2016.

The Frenchman capped an encouraging display with a goal against Apoel Nicosia in the Champions League last month, when he tricked his way inside and finished via a deflection, but the tie was a dead rubber as his side had already secured first place in the group.

Erik Lamela’s return from injury had also pushed N’Koudou even further down the pecking order.

He joined Spurs in 2016 for £11m from Marseille.

The former France Under-21 international has made 22 appearances in all competitions since moving to England but has played just a single minute in the top flight this season - against Bournemouth in October - although he has made six appearances in total.

N’Koudou came through the youth system at Nantes, where he scored twice in 34 appearances before he joined Marseille for £1m in June 2015, scoring five times in 28 games, and earning a move to Spurs.
