BURNLEY Ladies boss Matthew Bee was disappointed to see his side's FA Cup run come to an end after a 3-2 defeat to Cardiff City but praised his history-making side for their efforts in reaching round three.

The Clarets shocked higher-level Stoke City in the second round and threatened an upset against the Bluebirds but in the end the home side had too much for Bee's men.

He posted on social media: "Gutted to see our FA Cup adventure end. Fought hard until the end.

"Every player in this team should be proud of what they've achieved on this journey. They have done the club proud. Big thanks to everyone that has supported us along the way. We will move forward."

The Clarets fell behind on seven minutes in south Wales on Sunday when Cori Williams broke the deadlock for Cardiff.

But Burnley, who play two divisions below the Welsh side, responded but could not find a leveller.

And it was the hosts who scored the next goal when Ella Powell bundled home at the back post on 52 minutes.

Again the Clarets responded well to the setback and this time they got their reward when Evie Priestley headed home just after the hour.

The visitors were now controlling the game and forced a leveller with just nine minutes to goal when Sarah Greenhalgh fired home.

That looked like it would be enough to force extra time but four minutes from time Williams scored a winner for Cardiff and broke Burnley hearts.
