ROVERS defender Derrick Williams says no-one in the squad is taking the six game winning run for granted as their eyes remain fixed on the top two.

Tony Mowbray’s side men sit one point behind the automatic promotion spots after a six game winning run ahead of Saturday’s trip to Northampton Town.

Mowbray is trying to instil a winning mentality in to his players following relegation last term and Williams says the group remain focussed on the task in hand and aren’t getting carried away.  “The confidence is there but we need to stay focussed,” the left-back said.

“You don’t take it for granted you’ve just got to try and stay level headed all the time, see your goal and keep working towards it.

“There’s still a long way to go in the season, we’re chasing that top two so we are going to still keep working hard to try and get up there.

“We just think about being positive, we will go there (Northampton), chase them down and try and be on the front foot and just really see what they’ve got, make it difficult for them.

“We’ll go anywhere and give it a right go.”

Williams has been an ever present for Rovers at left-back so far this season but has had a number of partners on his flank.

However, Leeds United loanee Marcus Antonsson has started to make that position his own of late, with the pair having started the last seven league games together.

And the 24-year-old believes it is a partnership that is working well.

“He’s taken to it really well,” Williams said of the Swede’s new-look role.

“He is a good player, when he gets players one on one they find it hard to mark him.

“It is good because he likes to come inside, I like to go outside, and at the minute it’s working really well.”

Rovers held out for a ninth clean sheet of the season in the 2-0 win over Charlton Athletic last weekend.

They were however, forced in to plenty of hard work to see the game out as the Addicks enjoyed plenty of possession in the second half.

And while Williams says the intention wasn’t to drop deeper as the game went on, he remained confident that they could see the game out.

He added: “In this league teams look to kick it long and you have to simply defend, which we had to do at times against Charlton.

“In those situations when balls are being launched in, you just have to stay concentrated and stay clear minded and positive.”

“It brings us deeper naturally so it’s tough when that happens but we have to be patient and focus on our own game.”
