MARCUS Antonsson is enjoying his football at Ewood Park and says his only focus is on helping Rovers win promotion back to the Championship.

The Swede is the club’s joint top scorer on eight goals having signed a season-long loan deal from Leeds United in August having struggled for opportunities at Elland Road.

And the 26-year-old said he isn’t thinking about how his form is being perceived in West Yorkshire, simply focussing on helping Rovers win games having become an important member of Tony Mowbray’s side since his switch to a wide left role.

“I’m happy here now and really enjoying it,” said Antonsson who Rovers hope will overcome a slight injury to feature against Charlton.

“I’m scoring goals and the team is winning.

“I’m at Blackburn Rovers now and I really want to help this club win the league and go back to the Championship again.

“My only focus is to be here and do well for Blackburn Rovers and help the team.”

Antonsson has started Rovers’ last six league games in a wide attacking role in which he has scored four times. It was a role he was first utilised in off the bench in the 1-1 draw at Shrewsbury Town on September 23.

When asked how it came about, Antonsson said: “From the first time I met him we sat down and had a meeting and we talked about what he wanted from me.

“The main thing was goals and he knows I’m a goalscorer and always have been.

“I said that I preferred to play as a striker because that what I’ve done in the past and I feel comfortable there.

“But how we’re playing now, if I can start wide and have that bit of a free role and be very offensive that’s the main thing.

“I’m more of a striker than a winger but if I can start wide and still come and get the goals and be a threat offensively then it doesn’t matter where I start.

“He tested that game (at Shrewsbury) and I did well and we’ve taken it from there.”

He credits Mowbray with helping to bring the best out of him and says he is constantly working on his game in a bid to improve.

“It’s new for me but the more I play there the more comfortable I feel,” Antonsson said.

“I am a central striker from the beginning so I know that I can be there.

“Sometimes in training I can be there as well but I’m feeling more comfortable from every day of being out wide.

“He (Mowbray) deserves a lot of the credit because he’s very good at helping to give you the confidence.

“He talks to you and you can always talk to him so I think he’s a big part of this run we’re on right now.”
