BOASTING the best defensive record in the EFL away from home, Tony Mowbray now wants his side to go on the front foot in a bid to improve their potency in front of goal on their travels.

Rovers have shipped just four goals away from home this season, keeping four clean sheets in the process, but have failed to score in each of their last two.

Ahead of a run of four away fixtures in their next five League One outings, Mowbray believes a change in personnel and mindset on their travels will help them improve on their record in front of goal ahead of today’s trip to Bury.

“The mindset has got to be to go there and try and force every game from now on, be on the front foot,” Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“I didn’t enjoy playing out of possession and nicking a 1-0, but with the group we’ve got we need to be on the front foot.

“I have talked about the personnel at the time dictating that but we have changed the personnel a little bit.

“We await the return of (Darragh) Lenihan around Christmas which will only enhance us being able to let the defenders defend and push the rest of the team on and leave the defenders to defend without protecting and shielding out of possession.

“We’ll see how the season unfolds but the intention is to be positive, on the front foot and ask questions of the opposition, but being respectful of the opposition.”

Rovers, who are set to be backed by sold out travelling following of 3,750 this afternoon, are back in league action for the first time since the 2-2 draw with Fleetwood Town on October 31.

So far on their travels they have faced four of the top six sides, recording eight points in the process.

And Mowbray added: “I think we’ve been to some pretty tough places.

“Wigan, Bradford and Scunthorpe are in the top six and we have done pretty well away from home against some sides near the top of the division.

“Those games are out of the way for us, let’s wait and see how we get on against the rest.”

Mowbray says there has been a buzz around the training ground ahead of their return to league action against basement side Bury.

After a stop-start opening to the campaign, Rovers now face a busy period of games, something Mowbray says his squad are looking forward to.

“It’s a challenge that we’re looking forward to and these are games we have to try and get points from,” he said.

“The last league game feels ages ago so we’re ready for it. The team are, they’ve trained with a real intensity these last few days and let’s see what Saturday brings.”
