JAMES Tarkowski admits Burnley relish a 1-0 win after claiming yet another success by that scoreline on Monday night.

Three of the Clarets’ four Premier League wins this season have been 1-0, while all five of the home wins in 2017 have ended 1-0.

It’s been a popular outcome during Sean Dyche’s five-year tenure at Turf Moor and Tarkowski said it’s a result he loves being involved in, with Burnley passing a test of character when they claim narrow successes.

“They (1-0 wins) test all parts of your team - can you get that goal? Can you be resilient and hold out at the back? We’ve shown we can do that,” he said.

“They’re probably the most pleasing ones. Obviously it’s nice to win three or four nil sometimes but when you get a 1-0 like that it’s most pleasing to get that clean sheet and the vital goal.

“They’re usually tight games and teams aren’t coming here now and going all out; they’re sitting in so it’s difficult. To be able to get the goal and hold out like that is nice.

“I’ve not been here for the full five years but since I’ve been in there’s probably been 10 or 11 1-0 wins.

“Last year there were a lot of 1-0 wins. It’s the way we like to do it. We’re not the most expansive side but we can get the goal and we can defend.

“You always feel like you’ve got a chance but the opposition is also thinking that at 0-0. We know what it’s about and we know that if we stick in there we’ll get that chance.

“We knew that they’d conceded goals in the second half as well, that was something that the gaffer told us, so that showed.”

The win over Newcastle sent Burnley up to seventh in the Premier League, and Tarkowski said it was a perfect result for the Clarets and a good performance in all departments.

“A clean sheet, 1-0, hold out, it’s just how we like it,” he said. “It’s a really pleasing result because they’ve been going really well.

“I thought there was a good atmosphere and it was enjoyable to be out there playing.

“I thought it was a good all-round performance really. We didn’t create loads but we created some half-decent chances.

“I thought the build up to the goal was good and then big Popey was there when we needed him to make a save or two.”

It was a second home win of the season for the Clarets, who have found it tougher going at Turf Moor this season.

But the results are starting to come and the 1-0 defeat to West Brom remains their only loss at home this term.

Burnley have only conceded twice in five league outings in front of their own fans, but goals have also been tricky to come by, with Jeff Hendrick’s only the third they’ve scored at home in 2017/18.

“I’ve read things about us not scoring many goals here and not being the same at home so far but that was a typical performance from us out there and it was nice to get the win.” Tarkowski said.
