MATCH of the Day pundit Danny Murphy hailed Chris Wood as a 'really good bit of business' for the Clarets after his late equaliser against West Ham.

The £15million man netted his third Premier League goal in six appearances when he headed home Johann Berg Gudmundsson's cross five minutes from time, and Murphy has been impressed with what he's seen so far from the New Zealand international.

"He's a good player, I think he's a really astute signing," Murphy said of Wood.

"He's done well in all the games I've seen him in, he's a real handful and if you put balls in the box with quality like Gudmundsson then he's going to score a lot of goals. It's a really good bit of business."

The 1-1 draw with the Hammers at Turf Moor wasn't without incident, but it was shown sixth of seven games on Saturday night's Match of the Day.

One talking point was whether the Clarets should have had a first-half penalty when Joe Hart brought down Wood in the penalty area, and Murphy felt the England goalkeeper had a lucky escape, with Stuart Atwell awarding a corner.

"It's a penalty," he said. "Joe Hart comes out too fast, he pulls his arms away but his body knocks him over. He has a go at Chris Wood which he shouldn't have done, he's got away with one there."

Murphy was joined on the MOTD sofa by former Clarets striker Ian Wright, who felt Andy Carroll deserved to be sent off for two bookings in the space of 99 seconds in the first half.

"I don't think there's any real intent, he goes for it but he is leading with his arm, it is dangerous, he's got his eye on the ball so you think 'ok, I've been done for that one'," Wright said of the first yellow card for a challenge on Tarkowski.

"This one (on Mee), he's come from a long way, he's running at pace and it's dangerous. That's what Slaven is saying, he's experienced and he should know better. I'm not sure he needs to go for it with that gusto.

"I think that could have been a straight red."
