ROVERS have been handed a huge boost as midfielder Elliott Bennett signed a new two-year deal at the club.

Bennett, an ever present so far this season, has penned a two year extension to his contract which will now run until the summer of 2020.

The 28-year-old, who was courted by QPR in the summer, joined Rovers in January 2016 and has since gone on to make 64 appearances in all competitions.

The news was announced at tonight's Supporters Consultation Meeting held at Ewood Park.

Bennett has become a hugely popular figure with supporters of the club, and the versatile midfielder was delighted to get the deal done and extend his stay in East Lancashire.

He told the club website: "We've been speaking about it for a little bit now and I'm just delighted that it's finally signed and I can commit my future to the club.

"Once I sat down with the gaffer and we had a chat, it was never my intention to leave at the end of the season.

"I was part of the bad season we had last year and I want to be part of a great season this year, which hopefully culminates in us getting promoted.

"That's everyone's aim."
