JEFF Hendrick is aiming for bragging rights this weekend as Burnley come up against former Turf Moor star Michael Keane.

The 24-year-old centre back moved to Everton for £30million this summer and, fitness permitting, will line up against his former teammates at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Keane was a popular member of the dressing room at Turf Moor and was voted players' player of the year last season as helped Burnley to Premier League survival.

After winning two England caps while playing for Burnley last March and enjoying a standout season in the Clarets' back four, Keane attracted the attention of a number of the Premier League's top seven during the summer before opting for a move to the Toffees.

Hendrick believes Keane had earned that move, but praised his development with the Clarets.

“We all got on with Keano. He’s a great lad," the 25-year-old said.

“He’s been brilliant for the club here. It was his time to step on and challenge himself in a different way.

“He’s still young and he’s still improving. We all speak highly of him here and I’m sure they do at Everton as well."

Keane had been an ever present for Ronald Koeman's side until he missed Saturday's win over Bournemouth with a foot injury.

He trained away from the rest of his Toffees teammates on Wednesday ahead of Everton's Europa League clash with Apollon Limassol, but is hoping to be fit for a reunion with the Clarets on Sunday.

But Hendrick is hoping it will prove to be a disappointing afternoon for Keane.

“It will be good to play against him. He’s a good player but we want to get one over on him," the Republic of Ireland midfielder said.

“Everyone here wants the players to do well, whether it’s here or they go on to another club.

“It will be different playing against him but it will be enjoyable and hopefully we can get the result and he’s not too happy afterwards.”
