BURNLEY 1 MANCHESTER UNITED 0 - AUGUST 19, 2009

The Clarets first ever win in the rebranded Premier League came on a memorable night at Turf Moor as the champions were beaten, a habit that Burnley have continued, landing at least one victory over the defending champions in all four of their Premier League campaigns.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The opening day had seen Owen Coyle's side slip to a 2-0 defeat at Stoke City and their first home game in the top flight after the 2008/09 play-off success was as tough a test as they were likely to face at Turf Moor, against Sir Alex Ferguson's United.

But Wayne Rooney and co were beaten in East Lancashire as Robbie Blake's stunning first-half volley sealed all three points for Burnley.

BURNLEY 1 MANCHESTER CITY 0 - MARCH 14, 2015

Manchester City were the defending champions heading into the 2014/15 season, so it was inevitable they would be beaten by Burnley as well.

The Clarets were seven without a win when City arrived at Turf Moor for a late Saturday kick-off, live on TV, in March.

Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and David Silva were in the side for the visitors but they were no match for Sean Dyche's men as they secured another famous 1-0 victory.

The game was a tight affair but it was settled by a moment of brilliance as George Boyd crashed a stunning left-footed half-volley past Joe Hart from the edge of the area on the hour mark.

BURNLEY 2 LIVERPOOL 0 - AUGUST 20, 2016

The second weekend of the 2016/17 Premier League saw Liverpool come to Turf Moor on a high, after their 4-3 win at Arsenal on the opening weekend.

In contrast the Clarets had lost at home to Swansea seven days earlier so few saw this result coming.

Lancashire Telegraph:

It was a textbook performance from Dyche's side, with Sam Vokes lashing the Clarets ahead inside three minutes.

After that they soaked up the pressure, defended resolutely and struck again on the break just before half-time as Andre Gray made it two.

Burnley had less than 20 per cent possession on the day, but they came out on top in the stats that matter.
