NEW signing Adam Legzdins said he could not turn down the chance to join Burnley having completed a move to Turf Moor.

The goalkeeper has penned a three-year deal with the Clarets and joins from Championship side Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee.

And the 30-year-old, who had a year remaining on his contract with Harry Redknapp's side, admitted he was excited by the Burnley switch.

“I’m not one to stand still. I’d like to think I’ve got a good feel of things and I just felt it was the right time," he said on arriving in East Lancashire.

“Interest from someone like Burnley is something you can’t ignore, no matter what the situation was at Birmingham, and after speaking to the people here I think it will be a really good fit for myself.

“I’m looking forward to working hard to see what happens. I’m looking forward to working with the goalkeepers that are already here."

The Clarets have been on the lookout for a third senior goalkeeper since Paul Robinson decided to turn down a one-year extension and hang up his gloves at the start of July.

Former Burton Albion and Derby County stopper Legzdins made 15 Championship appearances across two seasons in his most recent spell with the Blues and will provide further competition for Tom Heaton and Nick Pope.

And Legzdins is looking forward to battling with the current stoppers and learning from Turf goalkeeper coach Billy Mercer.

The Clarets new boy added: “Tom has achieved fantastic things. I have played against him in the Championship many times and Nick Pope is a great talent behind him.

“But I’m here to excel and I want to push them and help improve the goalkeeper department.

“I think I can add a lot of things which can help us all kick on and I’m looking forward to learning from Billy and the other two goalkeepers.

“To be in an environment where there is healthy competition can only help us all moving forward and I want to achieve as much as possible.

“Looking at the fixtures coming up, it’s nothing but excitement for me and my family.”

Meanwhile, young Burnley goalkeeper Connor Mitchell has joined National League side Chester City on loan until January.
