CLARETS defender Stephen Ward is confident that the values inside the Turf Moor dressing room will remain the same this summer.

Four new arrivals have been welcomed to the club and Ward had warned against trying to change too much too quickly after survival in the Premier League.

The 31-year-old speaks from experience from his time at Wolves, but he doesn’t foresee the same problems arising with Burnley.

Charlie Taylor, Jon Walters, Jack Cork and Phil Bardsley have already arrived at the club this summer but Ward has backed Clarets chief Sean Dyche to bring the right kind of characters in to continue pushing the club forward after last season’s top flight survival.

“With the infrastructure we have, we will attract players but as the manager says, we’re not the biggest payers in the market, we’re lower end of the market and I think he’ll attract the right players and do his homework,” Ward said.

“You can see the lads he’s already brought in, they’re good lads, and they’ll fit in right to the way we play.

“There is going to be a few more new faces but hopefully the nucleus and the values will stay and that will stand us a good stead.”

Ward has learnt from experience that keeping the team spirit strong inside a dressing room is an essential part of building on that success of a first season.

He watched on as things changed at Molineux, leading to a narrow escape for Wanderers a year later, finishing 17th, before they came bottom of the pile in their third season.

“You keep the team spirit the same,” he stressed. “At Wolves we stayed up the first year quite comfortably, the second year, we stayed up with the last kick of the game, Stephen Hunt scored the goal to keep us up and the third year, you know, maybe players were coming in and the wage gap between the players that were there had changed. There was a different feel around it.

“I’m not using that as an excuse, we just weren’t good enough in the year but obviously it coincided with Mick losing his job which was a big factor and, from there, it was a tough year. We need to make sure that we don’t that happen here.”
