SEAN Dyche is hoping for another tough test for his Clarets side as they face Championship opposition for the second time in a week tomorrow.

Burnley travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest, having secured a 2-1 victory over Preston North End on Tuesday.

That made it four wins from four for the Clarets in pre-season so far, but the standard is getting tougher for Dyche's side, with Forest only a week away from the start of the Championship season, while Burnley still have two weeks to fine tune for the opening day of the Premier League campaign.

The Clarets chief is likely to make changes from the side that started at Deepdale, which could mean starts for the likes of Ben Mee, Stephen Ward, Steven Defour, Jeff Hendrick, Andre Gray and Ashley Barnes.

But with only two games to come after Saturday - against Celta Vigo and Hannover next week - Dyche said he was beginning to look for a side to face Chelsea on August 12.

"We want another good test," he said. "The competitive nature of sides, with Preston it’s their sixth game and they’re still working and still at it, Forest will be the same, they’re trying to lay down markers for their manager, they’re in advance of us so it’s another important game for us.

"We will flip the team again, so some of the players who started (at Preston) won’t start, then over the next couple of weeks we’ll narrow down the team that will start the season."

New signing Phil Bardsley may be involved at the City Ground, depending on his fitness levels.

Having completed his £750,000 move from Stoke City on Tuesday the full-back was due to undergo fitness testing at the Barnfield Training Centre on Wednesday before a decision is made on whether he is ready to be involved in pre-season action, having struggled with a back injury during the early weeks of Stoke's summer.

"We’ll see, we’ve got to assess where his true fitness," Dyche said of the 32-year-old, his fourth new recruit of the summer.

"We always believe in making sure the players are ready to play rather than using the games to get them ready to play."

For the Burnley boss it will be a reunion with Mark Warburton, who he worked with Watford, and Frank McParland, who was briefly sporting director at Turf Moor in 2015 before joining Warburton at Rangers.

Dyche and Warburton faced each other in pre-season a year ago when Burnley beat Rangers 3-1 at Ibrox thanks to Andre Gray's hat-trick.

Warburton has since made the move to take charge of Forest in the Championship next season, and Dyche said when he was offered the game against his former colleague he was happy to accept.

"I worked with Warbo many years ago at Watford and Frank of course," he said. "When we had the chance of the game we took it gladly, no problem."

Burnley season ticket holders can gain entry to the game at the City Ground tomorrow (3pm) for £10 for adults and £5 for concessions on production of their season ticket. For non-season ticket holders the prices are £15 for adults and £10 for concessions.
