BURNLEY secured two pre-season friendly victories on the same afternoon as they dispatched of National League North opposition in Alfreton Town and Kidderminster Harriers.

Robbie Brady’s free-kick was the only goal of the game at Aggborough as assistant manager Ian Woan and first team coach Tony Loughlan watched on.

But it was entertaining fare at the Impact Arena as Burnley, under the watchful eye of Sean Dyche, twice came from behind to beat Alfreton 3-2.

Andre Gray was the hero of the afternoon in Derbyshire, scoring a hat-trick  for the Clarets.

It was all Burnley during the first half but some wasteful finishing and inspired goalkeeping from Chris Elliott saw them draw a blank.

Within the first 10 minutes Jon Walters had hit the bar with a header from Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s corner, while Chris Long had flashed a shot over after stealing possession on the left.

Steven Defour was looking lively in midfield and he was at the heart of a lot of Burnley’s good work.

The Belgian midfield latched on to Andre Gray’s pass but saw Elliot stand tall to deny him before he flashed a low shot from 20 yards just wide.

Elliott was busy again on 25 minutes, producing a finger-tip save to deny Gray as he latched on to Gudmundsson’s through ball, and two minutes later the Iceland winger was denied himself from close range after a one-two with Jack Cork.

The former Bradford City goalkeeper then saved Defour’s 25-yard free-kick and Long’s follow-up, before  the hosts struck just before the break.

Ryan Jennings won a free-kick on the left from Tendayi Darikwa and his delivery was glanced home by Tom Allan.

It took the Clarets just seven minutes to find an equaliser in the second half. The impressive Gray exchanged a one-two with Walters on the edge of the box and then finished calmly past the advancing Elliott.

Parity didn’t last long though with the hosts back in front within three minutes. There were appeals for a penalty when Ben Mee caught Andre Johnson, but Chris Sharp latched onto the loose ball and drilled a low effort past Heaton.

There was a stroke of luck about Burnley’s second equaliser, with Luke Shiels harshly penalised for a trip on Gray just after the hour mark, but having won the penalty the Clarets striker made no mistake from the spot, sending his effort down the middle as Elliott dived out of the way.

And with just over 10 minutes to play Gray completed his hat-trick in style. Cork’s lofted pass was perfect for the striker who took a delicate touch to flick it beyond sub goalkeeper Mason Springthorpe and Gray tapped into an empty net.

The Clarets came close to a fourth in the closing stages, with Gudmundsson nodding Arlen Birch’s header just wide.
